Your dispatcher is your number one key to your success out there! Yes there are lot lizards and occasionally (not often) you will get a knock at your door. Avoid parking on the back row at the truck stops and this will minimize this. Showers at truck stops are $10 but most of the time are free because you use your frequent fueler card to pay for them.
Sorry these are the only questions I remembered!
Good luck...oneshyne Thanks this. -

Living in a truck 24/7 ......... Didn't bother me. I did make sure that I got in a good walk every day when possible. I did 20 years in the navy sleeping in much tighter quarters than a truck.
Living in a truck 24/7.......... Keep the truck clean & organized.
Living in a truck 24/7.......... Eat healthy!
Fleet manager/Dispatcher..... Keep a good flow of communication. Don't go "loggerheads" with dispatch when things go wrong. Don't be afraid to tell them if you screw up.
Shippers/Receivers............. Keep a good attitude regardless of how bad they are. 98% of them are pretty nice and do their best to get you done.
Shippers/receivers........... If you run into a hostile dock. Keep in mind that you will be down the road in a few hours smiling, while the jerk sitting on the forklift/window is still being miserable.
Stay clean..................... Even if you don't have time for showers. I kept additional water in the truck just for shaving and bird baths when I got onto a hot load.
Lot lizards.............. I don't know why this is still a problem, but it is. Everyone has a cell phone to call the local police. A lot of drivers thinks it is funny...........just listen in on channel 19.
Lot Lizards...... Had one bothering me in Ft Wayne one night. I finally told her I was "gay" thinking she'd stop. (smart right???) 10 minutes later a guy knocked on my door. I bailed out and drove up route 30 until I found a mom & pop diner where I camped out.
Channel 19........ Ummmmmmmm errrrrr ahhhhhhhhh....... you will figure that out for yourself. -
First of all,I was only OTR a few months(thats all I could stand) Opinions vary of course. Oh,yeah its dangerous when you shut down. Weirdos, meth heads, thieves, prostitutes, crazies all targeting your shiny truck.Keep a rugged lock on trailers, dont answer door to be a victim. Be extra careful in deserted area.Recommend carrying some weapons and keeping your "pie hole" closed about it.Arrived at a Home Depot early at night in Florida Shut down around back. Decided to "take a leak" behind the trailer. Bad move, meth head appears out of the dark"gimme your money". Now I carry treats for them. Hazmat is definetely dangerous hence(Hazardous Material).Fines run heavy and responsibility too.

So many questions so little time. Few answers for you. Problems with people door banging at truck stop can be avoided by parking in a good spot, and having a bumper sticker that says I shoot first ask questions later. Most drivers dont live in their trucks there are alot of thing you can do when you are not driving. I carry a bit of fishing stuff and cameras with me, Get out get active. jackknife a trailer happens all the time just look for the dummies with damage to the flairings on the truck/ Caused by not paying attention to what you are doing.
