Hello, my name is Martin. I live in Utica, Michigan and im currently in the process of opening my own brokerage. I have been approved for my bond and have a good factoring company ready to do buinsess with me. Im looking for people who can help me with starting out. Anything i should be ready for or just any information that can help me is greatly appreciated. Im also looking for a partner. I kind of went head first into this and im getting a little scared. Im very buisness savy but i need someone who knows the ropes and maybe needs a little help themselves.

Cold calling and local buisnesses that i delivered too when i was a driver. For carriers here locally i know alot of the company owners and have that taken care of. For out of state i will be using load boards. As for finding shippers i have heard alot of people say to use thomasnet

If your on The Internet Truckstop you will be listed as having no credit rating for 1 year. Most of us will not even look at your loads. The one way you can attract carriers during that first year is to advertise that you pay via Comchek on delivery. The first year is tough. Your going to have to pay more then everyone else and bite the bullet.

If you have customers why not become a agent for a agent based carrier, no up front cost, no factoring, no bond. They handle the credit and collections and supply approved carriers, you get a commission check every week.

Martin, Skateboard is right. I wouldn't haul for anyone with no credit rating, especially a new broker number. I let my brokerage lie dormant for about 2 years, just brokering to guys I knew and had mutual trust with, until I had no "no or slow pays" on my record. We paid very quickly and had great rates for the truckers, but when OOIDA jumped into the ring to raise the broker bond to $75K it knocked out a bunch of us who didn't do enough business to warrant the higher cost in bond. I tried to tell them they were going to screw a bunch of us small operators but Todd Spencer wouldn't listen. Now, not only us, but a bunch of other small brokers I used to haul loads for, are no longer in business. What a shame. Crooks will always find a way to get into this business - just like there are crooked truckers out there. You better watch for them, too. Don't get screwed by the criminal element in the carrier side. There's one notorious criminal family who are out of the Hazard, KY area and have had MANY MC#'s. AODD Transport, L A Transport, United Logistics (TN) was the last one. Here is the crook owner's name. He and his inbreeds have all been part of the game of starting up new companies when the reputation got bad enough to shut them down. Internet Truckstop has a good rating system for these bad carriers, too. You'll need to get set up with that.

AODD, L A Transport, and a few others are out of business. Hopefully, that crook is blacklisted.
