My new experience with Gordon Trucking, post-buyout

I got my 2014 W2 from Gordon today. Fairly impressive numbers. According to them, I averaged about $1,100 per week for a "short- to medium-haul carrier." And all post-buyout.

When it was still gordon that was my average checks as well but after the sellout the bottom fell out of it..

my last 2 months i got 14k total... and that was staying out 4 weeks then taking 4 days off and returning for another 4 weeks...

little over 1500 miles a week average didnt cut it for me.....especially after spending 5 years of running good with them...

but...all is well that ends well

If it turns out to be that bad then I will have to look elsewhere I guess. They mention the buyout in orientation but don't say a lot about it other than Gordon and Heartland are still being run as 2 separate companies right now and they do admit they don't really know what the future will hold. So far they seem to have been upfront and really seem to be trying to help drivers out. We have 11 people in orientation and all 11 are still here, and from what I have heard this is a big class.

Hope you will let us know how it goes. Captain Zoom lasted all of a month... Typical class is more like 5-7. Taking Orientation in Indy or Pacific?

What's your background, where are you coming from outfit-wise?

I'm probably not the only one who thinks of Gordon--good maintenance, good equipment, great driver support--more as a really good place after you've got a year in to get that second year--then after that lots and lots of other opportunities open up, job-wise due to their insurance requirements--and not so much for a driver like you appear to be since your profile says you have over 10 years of experience.

    Sounds like you're well-past 2-year ticket.

But with your background--or depending on it--US Fleet's probably a pretty good place to be if you're willing to stay out. The hookup with Heartland has raised some controversy here, but it's a legendary trucking outfit and Heartland has the $$ and operations chops. Makes money.

So it would great if you keep us posted on how you're doing.

I'm going to have to disagree on the good maintenence part. They suck at that. And whatever they have done to those trucks really screwed them up.

I got my cdl in 2001 working in the oil field then went otr worked for a couple mega carriers then ran for some owner op's got out of trucking for a couple years and did electrical. Then back to the oilfield and in 2010 went back over the road with Stan Koch. They were pretty good outfit, was there 3 years but their csa score started going down so got out. Got a dedicated job delivering Walmart for a month before they lost their contract. Drove mixer trucks for about 6mo and just couldn't handle a "normal job". I was looking for a dry van company that could get me out west, didn't run the north east and had nice equipment. Gordon fit that bill. The benefits seem pretty good here, TK apu's on the trucks and they say I can run out west as much as I want. Will have to just wait and see if they live up to the promises and if they can keep running as their own outfit. It seems a lot of their management are former drivers and I really like that they give you a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes here. They really went into detail about how your eta/pta effect your miles. Maybe its all a smoke screen, maybe not. only time will tell.
