Crete may require you to turn the truck in if you want 10 or more days off in a row. 9 or fewer days, you keep the truck. They also may allow you 10 or 11 days, it would depend on your dispatcher (they call them Asset Managers), if he (or she) will allow it, then you can do it...more than 11, I have never seen taken without turning in the truck. That said, the official policy is 4 earned time off days maximum at one time.Astoh Thanks this.

Con-Way truckload lets you bank hometime -- 1 day per week you work. If you get home after 730 am that day doesn't count against you, (e.g. if you get home Friday at 9am and go back Monday at 8am, you only used 2 days - not 3).
You can take up to 30 days off at a time before having to do a leave of absence or rehire. And if you don't live near a terminal (Joplin, Dallas, Laredo, Memphis, Detroit), you get to keep your same truck.Astoh Thanks this. -
You can do that where work.
Recruiting may or may not say that. They might just quote policy.
But I know that if the Driver is good, they will "work with you" on home time.
Generally. I take 1 week off each month. But if I wanted 10 days off one month and 6 the next and a 2 week vacation once or twice a year, it would be no problem.Astoh Thanks this. -
Margins get very skinny in some segments of the business.
Such that, a trucking business plan will fail if equipment sits over a few days. -
Small companies have always worked with me on extended time off. They just like a little notice, and of course it is not paid. In the summer I take 3 day weekends all the time for canoe/camping trips and such. I make up for it in the winter when there is nothing for me to do on weekends.

The driver is working 315 days/year. What does the company care if it sits for 10 days 5 times or 2 days 25 times?
Personally, I'd rather have the flexibility to send my truck anywhere for 10 weeks and then sacrifice on rates once to get a driver home. -
No one cares what you want. When I get a bad case of "the shoulds" myself from time to time I bang my head into a block wall until it passes.

Watkins Shepard gives you one day off for every week you stay out. They won't ##### if you take more. Great company. Good people. New trucks. Terminals all over the country. I loved working for them, but got burned out on OTR.
