I would gladly shake the hand and hire anyone who "deserted" under a draft or stop-loss scenerio. If the cause is just, Americans will volunteer in droves. But when military service becomes compulsory, leaders need to reevaluate.

 

I certainly do not remember my draft number, but I do remember holding onto that draft card well beyond the draft's end. I may have finally thrown it away when I reached my mid-late 20's. I wish now, that I would have kept it if for only posterity reasons!

 

I would not hire a deserter.

Sometimes its better to just do what your told, thinking does not always work out, then theres time that it helps....

 

I can't say I'm a fan of the draft either. I feel you should have a choice to serve and if you serve you should get to pick the branch and the job you do.

 

Yea...one hashmark E-3 USN. Proud to have upheld the highest traditions of the U.S. Navy by having a girlfriend in every port and getting stewed, screwed and tattooed in every port.

 

And possibly cost you a contract and sink your company. The most valuable thing that any of us have is the name we make for ourselves. That being said, I couldn't even afford to associate with a deserter, even if we were related.
