When I trained at PAM, I trained for 3 weeks with a trainer who had only been driving a truck for 3 months.
My first day,he basically put the keys in my hand and said go, then went to sleep.airforcetoo Thanks this. -
Happens quite a bit. I had a guy once tell me he was with his trainer for 8 weeks.... Teaming obviously... Poor kid

Ok. Their sister company prob not much better, but i dont have money for school. To me my options sre limited. Meaning im lookung at drivers solutions cause they train ya n give ya the job. Im workin at walmart in dairy i kno what rough companies r bout so i truly expect it to b hard for the first two yrs. im planning to drive out to fort wayne for August 10. My prob now is do i get the dot physical, eye test, n stress test done before going or they do it? What forms i need anyone got links - Pennsylvania. I so thank everyone for advice n opinions. Im gonna switch to USA Truck though.

I'd like to know why your picking USA over PAM.. I'm just curious... Both corporation HQ are not far from me.. My top picks so far would be
Con-Way TL and US Xpress.. maybe even Swift due to their free spouse training ..
We still have a while before we go to school and get our CDL's -
Why I'm consider the two of them :
1.) This is my biggest reason of all -- I do not have the ability to get a loan to pay for schooling, and I truly contacted the two in my area neither takes Federal Aide to cover the cost.
2.) I really do not want to go through a school then have no job offer because of one reason or another so this way I am going to be given the job upon completion.
I have a gap in my employment and I see that Pam is a tad stricter on that than USA Truck - the last two years though I have been working for the same company - Walmart - straight through every day .. .. And being in the section of the Northeast I'm in neither has a terminal near me - but I think up by Moosic USA Truck might have a terminal. Not so sure how to check this.
I figure, I'm working for a bad company now - they do not value their employees on any level so if I have to drive for a bad company for a year it wont be anything I'm not used to and it is something I can tolerate for a year or two - I've done that here before looking elsewhere.
I'm looking longterm - I will get trained without money upfront, I'll get a job that wont be too strict on the employment gap and at some point
I wont have to do the team thing - Pam requires 6 mos team driving - USA Don't but both have you three weeks with trainer.
My goal is to eventually go solo; thinking in three months.
So I've chosen to enter this route and go with USA Truck knowing their not the best company - but their not the worst either. -
I am 51 and I've had two stents put in my coronary artery back in 2007 - I was diagnosed with coronary artery disease I think. I am in excellent heart heath - I unload walmart dairy frozen trucks after all.
Q. Since I'm going with Drivers Solutions, for training, do I have to get my physical, eye test, and stress test myself? If anyone knows I totally appreciate your response, and if you can shoot me a link where I can get any DMV forms I need for this. How do you guys pay for it if you have to have it done on your own??
Thank you everyone for your answers and opinions - yes even opposing points of view.

Most schools have a loan program. With that said, after you finish school, you can get in with a company that will pay off the school loan for you, of which, there are MANY(!).

That said, you can have a company lined up before you finish schooling as many (if not most) have some type of driver placement program.
I know at TDDS there was a white board in the hallway that actually had a dozen company names on it which stated who had been 'pre-accepted' to driver for this or that company (you can fill out applications for a dozen different companies while still in school, most of which come tot he school and give their 'come work for us' speech).
Best of luck to you. -
Why not? PAM is horrible, that is why not.
