Hi, I just graduated from trucking school last friday. I have all endorsements and 2 very different offers. I would like to start work next week. I am from SW Ohio. I have an offer from PTL out of KY and felt good about it until reading many reviews for the place. the other is from a company here in ohio Homerun Trucking, Xenia OH. PTL is OTR and is has the phase 1 and phase 2 of training that is talked about alot as for being nearly a scheme to get the place rich and sounds like it has problems. The local place I have not been able to see any reviews but can say that it's all flatbed trucking and has far less training, just 4 weeks total.

Keys to know, PTL is .35 cpm for payment and Homerun is 24% in the first 3 months then moves to 26%.
PTL is van, Homerun is Flatbed.
PTL is out 18 and home 3, Homerun is 5 days a week home every sat and sunday
PTL is all over the country but no NW, Homerun is within 500 miles of xenia, oh

I am a 26yr old guy with no real need to be home currently. I do want to make the right choice and make good money.

Both companies recruiters promote that I can make 800$ a week at least, but with the PTL comments I'm really unsure of the phase 2 stuff and over all training.
In the real world how much can I make with either option?

Please let me know what you all think

the bigger concern is not the money the first yr
I dont know either company but flat bed training is more intensive
van is like school drive ahead
either way you will both be in a truck 24/7
learning how to properly strap flat bed loads and home on weekends
instead of weeks on end no breaks with a trainer would be my vote
later you dont like % pay or flatbed you can go full time OTR

I would go with flatbed. Home more % pay is better than cpm most of the time. The key is getting a good trainer. Good luck

I would choose the local flatbed, home every night gig for the same amount of $$, without hesitation

The less time away from the house usually means more money in your pocket. You can spend a lot more money on the road away from a fully stocked house compared to a fully stocked sleeper.
