A B Plate is for INTRASTATE only not INTERSTATE,meaning one state in which you reside or conduct your loads out of and if you cross state lines it requires you to get a 24 Hour Permit from D.O.T.

If your cab card is for 22 states then whatever other state you travel thats not Listed you have to get a permit to cross that state line, not to mention all the IRP CRAP with IFTA,REPORTING FUEL TAX and so on and so on,if you are FULLTIME OTR,then a APPORTIONED TAG would be the way to go for all 48 states class 8, rated on 80,000 pounds and not worry about anything then you would be covered,If you are mostly home EVERYDAY a B plate (INTRASTATE) would be the way to go,

They used to let you add on 1 or 2 more states if you wasnt full blown OTR,now it has changed its either OR No More adding.

Which means if your plate is about to expire, you need to contact the IRS Now and get your EIN number you can do it over the interne and receive it within minutes, but if you get a ERROR CODE like me you have to print out the SS-4 Form fill it out,fax it to them and wait for 4 days to receive one, otherwise you will have to park your TRUCK because they wont give you a PLATE RENEWAL OR UPDATE YOUR PLATE BECAUSE THE 2290 is part of the Requirement to get issued a tag.Now you see how they get you with this CRAP Lol

So now im parked until i get this darn NUMBER,which means if you had a BIG MONEY LOAD,and it is around the time your plate expires you better get the ball rolling, otherwise youll be at home with MOMMA until that happens, and telling your CUSTOMER NO WAY JOSE,which makes you look UNPROFESSIONAL sort of speak, Glad i found out when i did,I hope this helps out my fellow O/Os

Most states would not let you do what you were doing. IRP plates bought after Jan 1 2015 are good in any jurisdiction that accepts them, just like IFTA has been. It's how it should have been done in the first place.

I think you are getting what i said CONFUSED BROTHER,im not talking about APPORTIONED PLATES THAT IS FOR 48 STATES,IM talking about the B PLATES, B Plates which is used for only 1 state, other wise you have to get a PERMIT,if you travel out of that REGISTERED STATE,you can drive across all 48 states if you want with a B plate, you just will have to pay for permits for everystate you travel which is not REGISTERD,thats what im Saying

I dont make the RULES,Simply Conveying them to other Ops
I agree to disagree i know alot of old timers who Yank Containers around from the ports and sometimes they travel out of state not far but maybe next door west or east, and the shipper there leased on to usually pays for the permit, but now some shippers CONTAINER COMPANIES,want you to have at least 2-3 states added on,incase they get that load that needs to go there.GRANTED its your TRUCK AND
    you can turn it down.

One op i kno who has been hauling Cans since the 80s,always used his SS number as a sole proprietorship DBA,but now he has to get a EIN number,im not here to argue with no one, simply to enlighten those who are unaware brother.

Everystate is different,TEXAS ALLOWS YOU i think its 30 days after the PLATE expires to still use your OLD ONE,then get a new one,so dont tell me the way i was doing isnt legal,

everything i talk is FACTS BROTHER,NOT no MAD UP POINTS
Dont get MAD at me fortyCAL,Get MAD at the RULES,

I'm not mad, I think you're a bit crazy though. If I bought a FL INTRAstate plate, I can't add states as that becomes an IRP plate. I can buy a temporary GA trip permit if I need to go out of state. That hasn't changed. I never said anything about the IRS. They do as they please. I think the new IRP plate being valid everywhere is fantastic, personally.

Exactly. Had to have an EIN to file the 2290 for as long as I've owned my truck.

...and around here, B-plates are only 8,000# truck tags.

I know the irs would not accept my 2290 without an ein. But I also know the irs is the least consistent entity there is. All depends on which agent is on the other side of the desk.
