Hi everyone,
My husband is exploring job options and is being offered a monthly salary with a trucking company . They have asked him to pay for WCB insurance and have said they will compensate through a cheque every month. Is this a normal process? We are new to this and the options seem mind boggling. Look forward to your thoughts and suggestions. I also notice many small trucking companies suggest we have a corporation registered and take cheques. What is the advantage of this besides saving the company benefits payment?

Well I was going to ask you, what is WCB insurance, then I see where you are from Canada, so please explain WCB?
Next, I would NEVER take a job that pays me monthly. If I worked a full week, I want my pay check the following week, period.
I would nary trust a monthly pay check. Then it is a salary, which means they can pay one "set amount" and NOT pay any extras, like an hourly paid worker would get.
I would also NOT pay ANY insurance on my own, what is to say they actually reimburse him?
If I worked for someone, as an employee, then I highly expect THEM to pay taxes, insurance, and a weekly pay check. sounds to me, they are considering him to be a private contractor?
I'd stay away, but that is me, how things work up yonder in Canada, I do not know, and venture to never guess.
Ok, I just looked it up, WCB is worker's compensation board..
I do believe they want him to work as a private contractor. I do not know Canada's tax laws, labour laws regarding private contractor employment, best you seek a Canadian informational web site?Sharmi2k Thanks this. -
It's like workmans comp here in the states. That's the employer duty to pay and if they don't want to pay, I would be leary of working there. Could be they have had many on the job injuries and their costs have skyrocketed.
Sharmi2k Thanks this. -
I know, I looked up WCB. I smell something fishy in Denmark.

It seems like you're asking a question specific to Canadian business practices. You might ask here: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/canadian-truckers-forum/:
