Yup just a valid passport, but the felonies are a different story. I have gone but was kicked out of Canada around 2 years ago for a DUI that occurred in 1984. (Canada considers DUI a felony) after going up there for around a year. Very good chance you'll be denied entry at the border.

Canada can be a PIA. Some things are considered felonies in CA that aren't in USA. I heard they deny entry to sealed juvenile records???.... Crazy Canadians.

I use to cross border every weeks not anymore....yes DUI is consider a felony in Canada.

Anything that you have in your criminal record could be ground for denied entry to the country.

Canada just like the US has a waiver program that could allow you access to the country, you need to apply for it, pay the fees and you are good to go.

The major difference between the Canadian/US waiver program is the fact that most of the time Canada will grant the bearer of such document a lifetime document, while the US will deliver documents that are good for 5 years max.

I do have a waiver to access the US and i honestly could say that 99% of the time entering the US via ground or air is a pain free experience.

Custom officers have a job to do and 99.9% of them are doing it with courtesy and professionalism, honestly even if sometime border x-ing is lenghty i am glad these mens & womens are there to do their job.

My hats off to these peoples who are protecting our way of life here in America!!!

    God bless them.

canadains that are looking to go state side often need what is called a pardon which is the waver their talking about i belive it is the same us to canada. the costs have jumped in the recent years some where around $800 per pardon. and YES YOU WILL BE TURNED AWAY FROM THE BORDER.

you can look on the border patrol websites for more info.

these days the best way to go back and forth is with whats called a FAST card. you apply they invite you down to a local office they question you finger print you. both countries do their own checks. opens doors for more freight and canadains cant transport haz-mat into the usa with out it. but you would need to clear up any issues that would keep you from crossing to start with before hand.

Yes, its true, they do check, and will deny you entry. In another post you mentioned an old DUI? Yes, they will find it, and as mentioned previously it is a felony in Canada, and even though it isn't down here it will be treated that way in Canada. You can be "rehabilitated" for legal entry into Canada, but it is very expensive... as in four figures expensive. You'd need to get a Canadian immigration attorney... there are "services" that do this, but as with most things, there are scams involved too.

If you try to get in, you'd better have a passport handy, because our border guards will not be amused by someone trying to get in without one. Drivers licences and the usual IDs we carry won't work. Good luck.

A Pardon ( or as they're know now as a " Record Suspension") is strictly a Canadian document and will NOT gain you entry into the US. What you need is a US waiver which has to be applied for and you'll be checked out by the FBI. They're issued for 1,3, and 5 year increments at which you have to reapply at the end of every term.
