I generally pull light loads (under 40k) and i had my trailer brakes completely replaced (cams, etc, by utility trailer in el paso) in april
i am noticing that i am near brake replacement for the #5 axle at 85000 miles (definitely before i hit the 100k mark)
bendix brakes, new slack adjusters, etc
figure if this is normal?
How many miles are you getting out of your trailer brakes?

same here too.on the mileage. I get the thick brake shoes. I put new drums on every other brake service. if I had jakes, I may be able to go longer before replacement.

85K is pretty low unless it's all city driving. If #5 is wearing and #4 isn't then there is a problem.

You don't have an engine brake? Last truck I drove without one was a 79 transtar with a detroit. I thought everyone had them anymore. What engine do you have? -
just spoke to CRTS/Utility
i will get a credit of about $250 to fix what they screwed up on, these brakes (non pad, but cams, and other hardware) should last 3-4 years, not ten months -
Winter can be hard on brakes if you run northern roads the sand and salt gets onto drums and acts like sandpaper almost.. In summer shoes hardly wear but in winter it seems like they go down quicker even though you hardly use them .. Also the grease is stiffer so the slacks are are sluggish to release .. We get about 30 months pulling 90 to 95 k most are changed due to rustjacking then wear

Cheap lining. Not all brakes are the same. I always use Abex linings. I am partial to the 685 linig but have used the 8098 also. I refuse to use cheap brakes. Most of the brakes in the house brand or even the meritor /eaton/haldex/midland or whatever else is on the box isn't worth carrying out to the truck.

I got just over 250K miles on my 2000 Great Dane reefer. I use my jakes ALL the time.
