You might be right...it would sure keep them occupied chasing them geese, wouldn't it? :biggrin_2559:

I don't remember seeing where you spelled it out, what did you do before you called DOT and what did the company have to say when you told them about the extra pallets?

No kidding, huh? If I say "NO dice!" and have a valid argument to back it up, it's the end of the discussion on any safety related operational issue. And I'd never work for anyone who operated any other way. Anyone who is unwilling to acknowledge that a safe, knowledgeable, experienced driver's input isn't worth working with/for.

a reefer has weight to it, like about 1100lbs worth; add to that the weight of the sides doors roof that you dont have on a deck, very simple when you think about it isnt it.

I get the added weight of a reefer with all the insulation and the TCU unit, but on the other hand I've got full length steel frame rails that you don't find on dry vans. Plus the thick aluminum deck where dry vans have wood. Still boggles my mind the weight difference between trailers.

But what the heck, there are tankers out there that have double the empty weight of some flatbeds.

I guess those walls and doors add more weight than I thought. Go figure.

There's a lot of variations in van weights, too. The standard skin and post trailers are a ton or so lighter than the high-cube plate or FRP vans. Or at least they were a decade ago when I last messed with them.

Just more stuff to learn about, is all. You'd think for as long as I've been driving I'd know more about this field. Turns out I was wrong. Witness the ignorance, and be afraid, bwahahaha!!

At least I'm still willing to learn something new every day.....

Had a clerk at a Loves tell me once a driver for one of the mega's weighed 9 times trying to get legal.

Problem was he was grossing 81K. Now I would chalk it up to a tall tale but the clerk himself didn't seem to understand why he couldn't get it legal so I took the story as truth.
