I've heard that, but most OTR companies are very lenient. I'm pretty confident I could get a job going over the road, but must be local at this point. Does Western Express have local work?
Any Hope to continue my career?

Beats me. I don't work for them; I just know what they are. Limiting yourself to local-only will reduce your chances of finding employment. In that case, I would call your local trash companies.

Believe you me, I'm fully aware. It's very frustrating. I wish I could go OTR right now but life is just not permitting of it. If I have to change career paths in my life then I'll just have to, I just can't be away from home anymore. Tried Waste Management, who refused me. The only other trash company here I believe is Republic Services, I could always give them a shot.

Oh Crap, Pattj is right two days in a row. The planets must be aligned or something is going on in Sioux City. -
Also try local lumber stores, including the big box stores that make deliveries. And give lawn care/snow removal companies a call. Even Goodwill or Salvation Army; I used to drive a box truck as a crew leader for an organization called Volunteers for America, which was like the Salvation Army. Your situation is challenging, so don't rule anything out; you need to find and keep a job driving something, even part time. Keep looking at Craigslist under Transportation.
Good luck!Disgruntledriver Thanks this. -
The articles I've read highlight insurance and licensing issues. Do your homework before going that route.
The "making these sorry drivers work for a change." could also be applied to cheap freighters who operate on someone else's numbers without proper insurance, making law abiding drivers and O/O's work harder. Easier to make a profit when you don't follow the rules.
'Course the articles I've read could have been inaccurate, so as I said, do your homework. -
Well, in just a few seconds, I did a Google search on Asphalt Paving Companies in Phoenix, and another on Aggregate Haulers in Phoenix, and came up will all kinds of hits. You made mention of construction companies wanting all kinds of experience. Un-uh. Maybe for certain heavy equipment jobs. But almost all of these outfits are scrambling to find truck drivers.
This is some long hours and hard work. When you aren't driving, you will likely be operating a Mexican Backhoe, but there's nothing wrong with that.
What I am sensing in your posts here, is that you are putting up quite a few of your own road blocks. You either want to work, or you don't want to work. If you want to work, instead of whining about filling out all those applications and having to drive all over the valley, get off your rear end and get out there and LOOK FOR WORK.
Go in person to these outfits. Don't bellyache about filling out the paper work. Right now, you have a job. And that job consists of FINDING A JOB. So you either do what it takes or you don't.
You are right about not being able to change what has happened in your past. It is there, and you have to deal with it. But between your job hopping, your tickets and your "I'd like to but I can't" attitude that I'm seeing here, you are your own worst enemy. I don't think you really want to work.
There is no perfect job. There are always stresses and headaches, and somebody telling you what to do. There are always equipment problems. It is just a part of life. You are in a position right now, where you need to find a job and STICK WITH IT. And that means that you need to look pretty carefully at what you are willing to do. If you aren't willing to work the ridiculous hours involved in local trucking, then you need to find something else.
You say you clean up pretty well, so you might check with some beverage outfits. Or other jobs that involve driving, where you are dealing with retailers.
I hope I have pissed you off enough, that you will actually go get a job and prove that I am full of crap.
Whether you believe it or not, at this point, I really do hope you can get it together and get a job. And if you do, STICK WITH IT.sexystuff911, Chewy352, GenericUserName and 7 others Thank this. -
Hi Big Don, Mexican backhoe, LMAO. Thank goodness for modern medical science. Harsh words, but can't argue with what you say.

While my job references for being an equipment operator, are not nearly as numerous as cousin otter, I have managed to put in an hour or two on the Mexican backhoe. Now that I think about it, by golly, there IS a bright side to having heart problems!
