Not all companies require 160 hrs. Call the companies you're interested in and ask if they will accept graduates from that school. Schneider Bulk probably will & this is an excellent tanker outfit.

All these companies hire new CDL grads even though some websited may show "experience required."

 

I just retired from the military but have had a CDL for the past 20 years. I have decided on Maverick Trucking with the idea of doing tankers after the first year. Maverick does not require a 160 hr course and have an excellent training program from what I hear. I start orientation next week.

 

Did something similar; got the Ordinary Seaman Document because didn't have to test for it; just showed my DD-214 proving I had been in the Navy. Never did use it. Friend of mine was an Engineering Officer on a merchant ship and wanted me to work for him starting out as a wiper. Just never know sometimes; lots of decisions to make and only one lifetime with the clock ticking away.

 

I figured 20 years down in the engine rooms were enough. I had friends retire and go right over to MM or Military Sealift. 2 of them are assigned to the big (Roll on /Roll off) ships that are tied up on the next to the Monitor Merrimac bridge in Newport News off of I-664. If you ever come through that way......you can't miss em. They are petty huge.

 

Yes I think you are outta your mind. You are not going to make that starting out in trucking and you are going to deal with a lot more people you hate.

 

At one, time just a few years ago, I had planned to apply with Military Sealift Command for a ship ported in Singapore. The plan was to move my family there at my expense. Figured the wife would like it since they speak Mandarin and English there, but she changed her mind and refused to budge; just refuses to even vacation in Singapore. I love the place though. So, bought a home in Beijing instead and put the seamans document in a picture frame and hung it on the wall.

 

Sounds like depression-related lack of ambition, or truck driving would be nearer the bottom of the list.

Which is not to suggest I don't feel ya, but the only person who can correct stinkin' thinkin' is you. Your employer may have a program to let you speak with a therapist for "work-related stress" on their dime, but if you have to pay for it yourself I'd think it would be a wise investment.

 

yes you are out of your mind, but that is what it takes to be a truck driver. Must do what is beneficial for you, regardless of what nay sayers say...

Just be ready for a learning curve and small paychecks to start.

and keep in mind, you will not be working 40 hours in 5 days, but 70 hours in 8 days... well actually you will work more than that as a truck driver.
