Went to start the process to update my HME and obtain a TWIC card. Went to the UES site, first available appointment is 45 days out, on the same day my current HME expires. That's ridiculous.

Wait until you deal with some of the TWIC "offices" to actually receive and activate your TWIC. I can tell you the entire TWIC operation is poorly organized and inefficient, and some individual locations are REALLY bad.

I renewed my TWIC December 6th. and I'm waiting for my new card.

Just got my card today (TWIC). Applied on Nov 18. You do the math.

Going to see them in-person is different than on the phone or on-line. -
My dealings were in person. 3 months.

When mine expired about 2 years ago? I said good riddance. I do not, nor sadly ever worked for a company that required me to even have it. Wasted my time, money. And the few times I was driving a fueling truck for construction equipment?
Guess how many times I was asked if I even had a TWIC to enter the storage yard.

I just got the process started for both. Went online to do that part for the HME, and had a fingerprint appointment the next day. They didn't accept my notarized copy of my birth certificate, so I had to send $ to the county I was born and wait for a certified copy on the paper with the official seal. I wasn't impressed...I wanted the actual birth certificate, NOT a letter stating I was born, and for the money I had to pay, SOMEBODY could have looked up the original record and made the certified copies instead of merely searching the computer database and clicking "print". Got it back, though, and completed the online part for the TWIC the next morning. Walked into the local fingerprint place that afternoon and got that part took care of for both...so now I just have to watch the box for the credentials to arrive, and then go take a written test for the endorsement. Expensive, time consuming, and otherwise just an unnecessary waste of time, ESPECIALLY if you already have the endorsement/card because IF your eligibility had been compromised by a disqualifying offense since the last time you applied/renewed, YOU'D STILL BE IN THE BIG HOUSE!

Yes, but somebody has to have the TWIC and the HazMAt. It's good you seem to have no problem skirting the rules but some of us have to go into the ports and some of us move a lot of HazMat across a lot of scales and inspections. When you think about it, if there were no drivers with HazMat or TWIC, there would be nothing on anybody's shelves. So, kudos to those who decide to make the commitment to the job.

The entire TWIC deal is corrupt. Joe trucker has to pay for a TWIC background check just to be able to access and pull containers from a port. Meanwhile some metal framing & drywall sub contractor can haul 25-30 non english speaking Mexican/Hispanic workers through the port gate every morning for months on end. It happens quite frequently on the local military bases as well. Wink Wink........ some general contractor pulled the right strings.
