I just filed my taxes. I had them done by a CPA that works with truckers. Prime paid me a total of 8600.01 for per diem last year. I was gone for 320 days last year @$59/day that comes to $18,880 for per diem which is a deduction from the 50k I made. What they do when they file the paper for per diem is take the total you're allowed to deduct in my case 18,880 minus what the company paid 8600.01(which has already been given to you) = $10,279.99 that I was able to take as a deduction for per diem. Then you still want to itemize such as equipment, hotels, tools, tolls & scales(if they weren't reimburse), and anything else. I was able to drop from 50k as taxable income to just shy of 20k taxable but reduced my AGI 38k somehow. Still not sure how that worked but I'll trust the guy that has been doing this for 30+ years.

Originally from Cleveland area.
Good to see yet another Buckeye coming out here.
Best of luck to you. -
Its 80 percent of $59 not the whole 59 per day just an fyi

Nor will the IRS allow you to deduct expenses that they commonly reimburse that you didn't turn in.
For example, Prime reimburses company drivers for scale tickets, cash tolls and additives. If you have receipts for any of these items that you didn't seek reimbursement for, you can't deduct those items from your taxes.
And yeah, you only get to deduct 80% of that $10,279.99. -
I guess I'll see if I get audited cause that's what he did. I took all that right off of my tax papers. This is why I have a CPA do it. Cause I have protection if I get audited. All I did was give him all the recipes I wasn't reimbursed for to include equipment cost(that was 3700 alone) and all the days I stayed out.

Protection??? Guess again! When you sign the 1040, you're responsible for what's on it, not the preparer.kbod9633 and JimmyBones Thank this.

Almost done with the first day of PSD at Prime! Even talked to quite a few trainers! My class is fairly large but they split us up well enough to where most everyone was able to finish the Interview/ Drug Test/ and Physical by now. For those of us with permits we will also be going to see Wally in the sim lab at 4 to do some CBT's and maybe even some simulator time. I have to say I really appreciate everyone that has posted/ responded to me about Prime Inc. I really feel like I made the right choice about coming here!
