I ordered a copy of my HireRight DAC about a year ago, just to see if anything was on it (there shouldn't have been). It did come sooner than I expected, but I forget how long it took. It was clean.
Your 2 incidents are really very minor, so don't think that all employers will rate them on "felony" level. Did the company get on you about the 3 overweights, or do you think those citations figured into the dismissal? BTW, CAT's guarantee says if their scale checks out wrong, then they pay, but if it checks out correct, they only guarantee that "a representative of CAT Scale Company will appear in court with the driver as a witness". CAT knows it's not feasible or easy for drivers to go halfway across the country just to go to court. Did you pay or the company paid?
Back to matter at hand,, most times the best way to overcome minor infractions such as you described, is by approaching companies in person, rather than via "just paper application". That gives you the chance to tell them face to face "Yes, I made a couple of minor mistakes in my first year, HOWEVER I learned from them and am a safer, more cautious driver due to them". You have to "sell yourself" to any employer, whether your record is without incident or not.
But I realize in this day & age, getting face to face interviews is not a common first step with larger companies, but many smaller companies will do it that way. It's easier to sell yourself face to face. Don't rule out smaller companies in your general area, but avoid the ones that are "fly by night" DOT nightmares. Always check out their history at FMCSA.
No need for any "spin" to get hired, just be honest and sell yourself. I agree with Big Don and equally have a hard time imagining these sole 2 incidents were the sole reason you were let go. Sure there is nothing else?
How to fill out an application?
