We are being patient. I just filed my taxes, my refund will ensure we have no money worries until we start with our mentors. So right now it's a waiting game. We will be headed back to our storage unit, aka "home base" haha. Grab her car and head out to macon to visit her dad until we get word on road training. We have to call every thirsday... we're not currently worried.

On a separate thought, a word of advice to novice greyhound riders. Buy some soups in their own containers (microwavable) or other microwavable self Contained meals to take with you! You do not want to pay 200% markup on convenience store garbage that they sell at the terminal "restaraunts" (I use that term loosely). They have strategically placed most major terminals away from restaraunts so you're forced to buy this garbage. The one in Birmingham is LITERALLY 6.00 for a 3.00 microwavable cheeseburger that is available at any convenience store. All they have is junk. Save yourself the headache! You'll thank me!

You might like skipping greer this week. It's supposed to be pretty cold. I failed at the dmv on thursday and had to come home. Don't know yet when I get to go back to try again. Gotta call next week to find out.

Haha. Yeah, we saw that! We were happy. Mind telling us what happened? Anything to watch out for? What rig do they have you testing in? Any time to brush up on skills?

You train in Freightliner Columbias, identical to most of the range trucks in Millington. You'll test on the same one you train in. If you guys are Georgia, you'll get to go to the Gainesville dmv at least once to run your road course and practice your skills at the dmv there. Beyond that, most of your skills practice will be at the Greer terminal. They have an area at the back of the yard set up with offsets and a 90 box.

As for my mistake, it was really stupid. My setup was bad for my 90(I'm south carolina), so I knew I would have a harder time nailing it. I ended up using 2 pull ups, then as I straightened up and backed up for the last time, I went too far back and hit the wooden barrier they have at the back of our box. They'll let you have about a clipboard length, but I pushed it about a half inch too far. I was really mad. The terrible thing is I had done it great that morning practicing it.

The only consolation is that most people seem to fail the first time out. I'll get it next time, for sure.

Yeah I'd not sweat it testing in GA after road training in Greer. All I've talked to said that road course is a cake walk. Spartanburg is NOT easy.

Shut down! We were scheduled for a bus ride back home this morning. We were up at 4am and out in the weather at 5 only to hear we won't be leaving today. The south can't handle the snow and ice. We're hoping to head out tomorrow morning. Oh well, back to the hotel room for cocoa and a nap. :)

    So update:

We came home for a week, because our original road training in SC was backed up. However, Dana was able to get us a spot in Ocala since we live fairly close. Newbies, if you get stuck in this situation ALWAYS be open to whatever you need to do to get the job done. Tell the coordinator you're willing to work with whatever border state they can get you into! Now we're headed for sunny florida (my birthplace and where I grew up) for a week! I'll get to see some family as most of my family is just south of ocala.

The best part? It's only three hours south, so we're driving! No greyhound! No 10-16 hour layover in atlanta! Haha. We head up today to visit my grandpa. Check in Sunday after 3pm. We remain extremely optimistic and have had a good experience! :D
This time next week we should both have cdls in hand!

Woohoo! Left the snow and ice behind us in Millington. We just checked into the super awesome hotel in Ocala! This hotel features: REAL beds, clean bathrooms, only 2 people in the room, and a heated pool... Gonna get some studying done this evening...in the hot tub! :D

seriously, the hotel here isn't super fancy, but it's MUCH nicer than the one in TN. We start road-training in the morning and we both need to study the packets we were given the last day at the range. We also want to run through pre-trip a couple of times. DMV test is scheduled for Friday. Wish us luck!

Good luck to both of you!! Glad to hear after your wait you already have a test date at DMV.
