Besides pay here is the differences between working for a small company and mega.
Everybody in the company knows you by name, there is usually only one or two dispatchers you deal with-you build a relationship. You can time off when you need to, just let the owner know and he will give any time off you need on any dates (obviously nothing crazy), you are home every weekend (I asked to be home every Friday night and they do it for me). I also asked to not be sent to PA, they honored it. Things like that make your life much easier. Again, after getting experience, you are free to go wherever you like

Being paid on a 1099 for a company driver is illegal. Not to mention all the other things he's not covered under being classified (illegally) as a contractor.

Speeding and falsifying log books is illegal, does not mean people don't do it on a daily basis.

Just because they might doesn't make it right. 1099 for company drivers are illegal and they also stop drivers from being protected under certain laws.

Working as an employee but getting paid on a 1099 is a bad idea. Its ripping yourself off. And yes, I had excellent accountants when I did it. I still made less for more work in the long run. Contractors have no access to unemployment benefits. They have to pay into the system (in fact they pay a higher rate than employees), but they have no access to benefits. Its a scam and you're being ripped off if you do it. Also no access to workman's comp. Hurt your back while on the job and can't work? Oh well, no workman's comp for you so good luck feeding yourself.

The bottom line is if an employer wants to you work as employee but get paid as a contractor, that employer is a criminal and they are ripping you off. Why would you want to work for a criminal? And yeah, they're promising you $1500 and 3400 miles per week. But we've already established that they're criminals and criminals have been known to lie. Do you really think you trust anything a criminal tells you?
