I tried my bearcat 980 ssb right out of the box with my linear today after I bought it. when I key the mic the amp stays lite up and when I release mic the radio stays on rx full until the inline fuse on amp blows or i shut the amp off. What is causing this? I used this amp with a cobra 29 lx and it worked fine. All same coax same antenna. Only thing I changed was from the cobra to the bearcat. Help please

first and foremost, have the two matched to each other by a reputable tech.
-
That's pretty hard to do when there are no cb techs in my area. I would have to have it sent off to the states.
-
what is the radio DK'ing? may need to back off the DK some...Or could have a stuck relay in the amp.
-
The dk is at a little over 3. The amp worked fine with my cobra 29 lx.
-
might check your jumpers, but doubt that's it.

Things break. They usually work good right up until they quick working good or at all. Shipping to a good tech is cheaper than a new radio or having new finals put in either device. I am not a tech, but it does sound like a relay is sticking, for whatever reason, as somebody already mentioned.

former yankee Thanks this. -
I tried it again with my cobra 29 lx and it works fine so the amps not broke and the cb is new and I was talking skip on sideband today barefoot so I know that cb is working. Something's up between the 2

Sounds like you are driving it to hard to me, but I'm not a tech.

Yeap..Im doin a lil reading and talked to a tech in the us on my route...UNLES ITS A HIGH DRIVE AMP you should not have no more than about 1.5-2 watts out put from radio to amp..
Cloud 9...Does your radio have a knob to turn power up or down on the radio, its seperate from dynamike(dont think it does)..If yes you do,turn it all the way down on the radio to test....If it still blows fuse n such your radio is most likely still putting out to much power to drive the amp..
