Oh, ok, that is good then, if they help defray the cost in some way. Now, onto another question (or two), if the company does not pay, and say the health insurance does not pay, and the driver pays ALL expenses out of pocket, can he/she use that as a tax write-off?
I would like to think, "YES" as it can be "work related expenses"? Like a cb radio, sleeping bag, maps, etc, etc?
Again, thanks in advance to all that respond.

I think I covered that in my first post? Not sure...could just be too many tire fumes talking.

Im no tax expert, but it may be an either/or situation. Medical and work expenses have their own deduction categories so if it is an either/or situation, I personally would use it as a deduction on the one which gave the most benefit.
Tax season is coming up, and if your tax guy is like mine he loves the obscure questions! -
for the diagnosis I think its falls under a required medical device. Mine was covered 100% from my old job before I started driving. That was with decentish insurance. For those Ins companies denying outright , appeal. Doc can help with that too in preapproval or going to bat when they try the initial denial. Point being if OSA is bad enough for CPAP as a treatment then they cant really deny it.
For those drivers getting into the industry with OSA diagnosis , these are questions to ask your prospective companies during your research.Last edited: Feb 5, 2015
Vilhiem Thanks this. -
Something to note about that, thanks for bringing it up Mickey, if your insurance does deny coverage (and this goes for anything) and a life-altering/threatening situation or event happens due to denial of coverage of a required item, the insurance company becomes fully liable and it's almost an automatic win in court.

WOW, I can see many lawsuits if a driver got into a crash, I'd nary want to be the agent that refused payment!

I write it off. IRS hasn't come after me yet.

Hope you don't get audited by the Irs.
My wife is an enrolled agent that does taxes. I've got sleep apnea.
Out of pocket costs for sleep apnea treatment and machines are medical care for income tax purposes.
Sorry. .. it's better if it was work related but that's the Irs rules. -
It is work related. Without it I can't get certified and can't work.Vilhiem Thanks this.

FatDaddy. .. IRS rules don't have to make sense.
You are right... but irs still says that it is medical not work expenses for tax purposes. -
I have 4 masks that I bought over the last 8 years. Now I just order a couple of mask seals every 6 months or so. The hoses get washed out and soaked in a vinegar solution every couple of months. My masks get washed out every time I use them. In the truck I just change them out every day. I use regular dish washing liquid on the masks and wash all 4 at once at home. I put the water chamber in the dish washer every couple of months.
RACEFAN Thanks this.
