Truckers Warned of Diesel Fuel Thefts

Vermont State Police are urging truckers to lock their fuel caps to prevent thefts of diesel fuel.
The warning comes after 190 gallons of diesel fuel was stolen over the weekend from two tractor-trailer trucks parked at L & T Auto on Route 2 in St. Johnsbury.
The cost of diesel fuel is approaching $5 a gallon-- so that's over $900 of diesel that was stolen in this case.

If some lowlife wants it that bad, they will just put a hole in the bottom of the tank. Caps and siphon devices wont help then.
This happned to a buddy of mine on his van with gasoline in it!

And all this will do is raise the price of diesel and gas even more. If I catch anybody stealing my fuel, I'm shoving a crowbar into his face.

Who's up for making fuel theft a capital offense?

Thousands In Diesel Siphoned From Truckers

CHAMPLAIN, N.Y. -- Some truck drivers are falling victim to diesel gasoline thefts.

Police said truckers are siphoning hundreds of dollars of gasoline out of each other's tanks.

It's already happened twice in Vermont and once in Champlain.

So now, to protect their tanks, many drivers are putting their gas under lock and key with locked caps.

They're more expensive than the normal caps, but still are in high demand.

So much so, truck part managers say they can't keep them on the shelf.

Calvin Harvey, who's been driving trucks for more than 20 years says they're worth every penny.

"You've got 300 gallons of fuel and at $5 a gallon. You know, that's $1,500," Harvey said.

"It doesn't take very long to siphon that out so you want to lock it up."

Some fuel station managers are also considering locking their station tanks, despite many keeping them under video surveillance.
