There was just an article the other day from NYT or similar paper, and they're starting to back peddle on replacing everyone with machines. Think about it, if no one has any money who are you selling too? Some people have this idea of a free society where everything is automated and no one has to work and gets whatever they want for free. Yeah, sure. The richest people in the planet are working to make themselves obsolete and all their money extinct. Not happening, no one works to make themselves less powerful/successful. Google has already started back peddling on their automated car idea. Facebook wants a phone, Apple & Google want their own cars, etc. Nothing but pet projects that will never reach the market or will flop when it does.

I wasnt meaning just trucking jobs in particular. There are many jobs in many industries being taken over by computers and robots and other automation. If all the work is being done by robots in the world then nobody is gonna have any money to buy the stuff the robots make and deliver. Just because a job can be done without a person certainly doesnt mean it should. And if noone has a job, noone will be paying taxes, and noone will fund your SS check.

I listened to one program about the self driving vehicles, and what concerns me is that that some point they think you will not be allowed on the road unless your vehicle has the technology to talk to other vehicles. Who died and put them in charge?

If the congress & senate doesn't get their act together, there will be a mass increase with new american truck drivers that think 25-30K sounds pretty darned good. They have already flooded the the construction trades. American born drywall hangers, finishers, framers, roofers, concrete, siding, carpet, landscapers, are sitting home while foreign crews are taking over. What makes anyone think that they will not have a major influence on the trucking industry once they are legal?

Trucking companies will suck em up faster than you can blink an eye to compete. The already stagnant pay isn't going to get any better.

Automation will not be the cause of american's losing their jobs. Automation has opened up a entire new industry of decent paying technical jobs. Automated machines require parts, technicians, trucks, and logistics workers to keep them running. There are many off shoot companies that make those parts, and require workers to design, pattern, produce, and deliver.

The job landscape started changing back in the 70's, and too many workers were caught off guard with their due to complacency, and comfy lifestyles that a manual 40 hour a week job provided.

It's a new world folks, the sooner we get a hold of it, the better. Nobody owes you anything.

Yeah but if automation didn't save the companies money they wouldn't invest in it so it's a net loss for the average Joe.

Are you saying there are autonomous vehicles sharing public roads in those places with the general public's vehicles?
