I think the main point is in general us truckers tend to be loners. While I'm not opposed to a good conversation there are times and places for it, drivers lounge is fair game. Me walking through the lot is not. I don't want to get caught up in a long talk that screws up my plan you know.
When at a Truck stop......

I wear a company logo shirt every day when I am on the road. Unfortunately, this makes me identifiable to our other drivers.
If I don't know a driver, I'm not talking to him/her, if they work for the same company I do. I will ignore them should they attempt to chat with me. If they choose to continue to try to engage me in conversation, I will be extremely rude to them to make it clear to them I don't want to talk, I don't care where they are going, I don't care how many model wives they have or how their snot-nosed kids are doing in school.
If a driver, who works for a company other than the one I work for, tries to talk to me, I will be more patient with them.
As a general rule, I don't go to the sit down restaurants because I don't want to be bothered by other drivers. This is also the reason the only time you will see me in a driver's lounge in the truckstops is when I am passing through on my way to the restroom or showers. I dread it every time I have to put my truck in our company shops when the weather bad because then I am forced to wait in the driver's lounge until the problem is resolved. If the weather is nice, I go for a walk and check with the shop later in the day.
Anti-social? Yep, that certainly describes me.Grumppy Thanks this. -
Social deprivation is bad for us.

If I ran into another company driver out there somewhere along the highway, I'd be pretty concerned...... I work for a small company & I'm an only company driver.
I'm actually somewhat of a loner... hence being a solo truck driver. I'm out here all day long by myself in my own little world.
In all honesty, I dont mind saying hello & being polite to people at a truck stop or at a shipper/receiver, but small talk for a couple of minutes is plenty for me if I'm caught in a situation like waiting in line at the fuel desk. If I'm sitting &/or eating etc in a truck stop , I'm not interested in having some lonely trucker come sit with me interrupting my dinner.
I dont mean to sound "Grumpy" (hence, my user name here) but, I'm just not big on being social. Again, not being Grumpy but, as others have pointed out... generally, people are just annoying & just don't know when to quit. I don't care about grandma's cat or your 2nd cousins foot fungus.
I'm not down on you guys who are social, but I just prefer to be alone.. I mean, again, its one reason why I drive a truck. I am alone. Not in a factory or cooped up in an office with a bunch of loud mouths jabbering all the time.
Ok I'll stop now... humm, that was a lot of interaction to be so much of a loner wasn't it.. But again, I know when to quit... some people don't..
End of rant.......Last edited: Feb 24, 2015
