Right- so we ARE on the same page. I need new spectacles or sumfin.

They'll keep on charging for overages in data - since they aren't measuring time for billing.

    *bump*

I switched to Mac (woohoo! what a difference from a PC) and I now have an air card from AT&T.

$60 a month for 3G unlimited usage, VOIP, WWW, Text, e-mail, etc.

Wifi is now ancient technology for me. :biggrin_25525:

You'd also be happy to know AT&T's isn't unlimited.

I used to think that a Mac would not play games; and no, it doesn't play PC games; but there are enough games to satisfy me.

    *****

I pay $60 a month, and yes it is unlimited. No restrictions on time, bandwidth, usage... nada.

    *****

3G is the network protocol and speed, think of it as the difference between dial-up and DSL.

    *****

When it is hard to find a wifi spot that is open, or when the wifi spot slows to a crawl (like at so many IdleAire's with their 1 DSL line and up to 30 users!) then it is very welcome. Sitting at the shipper/receiver I can get online, check the mail, watch videos, chat with family/friends, surf the web, and even play games. ( :blob3: )

And, I can get weather updates, e-mail, etc. while moving down the road. I don't recommend sending e-mails or chatting while driving! But it is so nice to get those directions from the receiver, or load updates, or urgent messages, or snow alerts, or whatever.... while running down the road.

I've noted this in another thread, but Sprint has a plan where you can tether a PDA type phone to your PC. It's $45 per month, unlimited data. Look for the "Unlimited Wireless PC Access Plan". $45 flat fee, no overage, and does not affect your talk time minutes. Requires a Sprint signal, which isn't always available, but it's about as good as any other company.

The phone-as-modem has the same 5GB/month stipulation in the contract as the connection card.

Not true. It actually falls under Nextel, but search the Sprint website for "Unlimited Wireless PC Access Plan". Check with a rep to make sure. It is, I've been assured, truly unlimited.
