They have Freightliner trucks. At the beginning, they give new drivers the oldest trucks
of which you will be driving a 4 or 5 year old truck. I talked to another Schneider tanker
driver who is across country driver and he tracks all his miles in a notebook.
He is leaving Schneider too because he also told me his average miles is 1700 a week.
I told him, that is exactly same as my miles and was strange he mentioned that to me.
I once got a run to Arizona and Salt Lake City and Montana. But those hauls out West
are few. You would be lucky to go West of Nebraska.
Schneider Tanker drivers: How do you like pulling tankers for them?

I work for a company that pays nothing for detention. Pays no layover, and less per mile. So Schneider is worth it And I'm a BIG anti-detention pay advocate. I never got paid detention when I was at SNBC, so I don't believe it exists anyway
-
So now you've applied for your twic card....?
-
My last six months there, I averaged 2350. Now, that only included when I was on the road. I didn't count the 6 days off/month in my average. I was there 1 year total.
i stayed out between 3-4 weeks, mostly 3 weeks - just enough to get my six days off and have my time off cover a whole weekend (ie, off tues thru sun).
more than anything, you have to learn how to get paid for extras -- layover, detention, etc at Schneider. They're not going to tell you what you get paid extra for, and how to get paid for it. Talk to other drivers and ask your DBL.
i liked my time at Schneider and made the best of it, but it was very frustrating at first. You just gotta push thru that and be patient. November/December was very slow in my exp, which was a huge part of my frustration (I went out in my own truck right before that slow time right after I started).
like ethos said, get a year in and don't crash. Try to keep a positive attitude,, you'll get PO'd sometimes, but don't just get mad and walk. You'll be happy you hung in ther when you see what's available after you get a year. Two years is even better (you'd probably be a shoe-in at the best companies) but one year will do for a nice upgrade. -
If you dont get paid detention, you are working for free....
-
no you're not
-
What do you call it then? Spending 3 or 4 hours unloading sure seems a lot like working to me.
ethos Thanks this. -
If i'm not physically working then I'm not working. If I'm on line 2 while I'm unloading then I'm not working. if someone else is working and im not then I'm not working
If your're ONLY paid to drive (and most of us are) then one has to work for free while unloading, but its life, Nothing I can do about it.
But Schneider does pay you to pump if you have to pump
