THANKS FOR THE POSITIVE POSTs!!.. i know its going to be a shock money wise but i think it will still be better then a 9-5, im sure i can find a balance with the roadtime and hometime that can still make me a decent living.... whats the best load board to use?

You really should read stayinback's reply and think long and hard about that. it's lucky to find $3/mile in flatbed right now on the boards and running your own truck is no simple lifestyle, it's one you aren't prepared for if this drop in the oil field has left you stranded. You need to save up for bad times because they will happen with your truck too. I've been in the oilfield for a decade now and this is what happened in 2009 too, everybody thinking apocalypse has come. Just wait it out, that's why you save up for this because it's 100% possible it will happen. I can tell you too in 2009 the repo business was booming, so maybe you should buy a wrecker lol.

Hopper hauling is crap right now all the oil field haulers have parked there flatbeds and have flooded the market...no offense intended. in this market it is unrealistic to get to your goals unless you have to sacrifice one you can make that money with a hopper IF. 1. you do not stand inline anywhere FAT CHANCE 2. you stay on the road with good turns and get home once or twice every 2 weeks (hopefully not bouncing a long way after dropping off or to pick up) 3. you haul grossly over weight with a ag overweight permit in Oklahoma you can haul 83400 for grains and fertilizer (this is if the elevator will let you leave over 80000 even with permit.) remember this keeps you off the interstate so your avg mph will be down. also if you happen to get axeled out by your friendly neighborhood dot officer and you are off you will get a over gross ticket as well as a over axel even with the permit. running your ### off you can average 1.90 to 2.20 a mile

Can I revive this thread ?
I talked to a couple o/o that lease on Oklahoma ag . they are quite happy with it . Don't know what they make but it must be decent . One just told me he is home in wichita ks about every two days
Regular run .
I normally get about1k week as company driver hauling midds, hulls, grain and a bit of ddg for a local wichita company . so yes you can make money but need to get big trailer to haul light fluffy stuff
I will be giving up my job and buying a truck soon . so I hope I am right -
2000 clear. Eh, maybe hauling illegals for 20K a vanload into Phoenix...
BigBlueMarine99 Thanks this.
