Not sure where you got the idea that I paid $80K for and '86 Pete but never mind.....you confirmed what I thought by not answering the question.

Who knew the price of a loaded Pete increased 550% in 19 years. Why would anyone want to ignore when they can learn so much?

Inflation like that makes me think these are the good old days.

Did a little digging and found that a bare bone Peterbilt COE ran between $28,000-35,000 in the late 70's

This wont help the driver shortage....no point in lowering minimum age if the companies hiring want you to be 23+ also starting out in trucking sucks a big fat one everyone iv talked to that did a big school starting out made around $350 a week their first year,i made $400/wk working at a warehouse being home every night and days off to party.

thats why the oilfield has a such a big problem hiring because young people want to get paid good, have lots of time off and have freedom i mean they are offering anyone 80k+ a year to just work out there! and guess what? noone wants to do it and te biggest reason is they cant be away that long, so just imagine making 300-500 a week and being away from your family even longer. I just dont see young people picking CDL driver vs say a trade or college.

Too many hormones at 18. Isn't Ubamma giving free tuition to all kids now? Why go drive a truck when you could stay in school where the girls and parties are?

See my school was my grandpa sitting in the jump seat with a hard backed binder with the words "don't grind them gears" vibrating in my head. Learned to drive on a 83 Pete 359 5x4. Getting smacked upside the head every time I couldn't find a gear.

If it were me. I would make everyone rather they have driving experience or not go thru a classroom course that teaches you the paperwork, rules, and regulations of the industry. It's amazing how much things I didn't know till I sat down and read the dot rule book.

Biggest problem I face is age. If it's insurance, DOT or older drivers that don't like being told what to do by a 20 year old. (I'm a supervisor at my company now)
