What I don't understand is how you've come up with all you facts with ZERO trucking experience. I hate to break it to you man. But trucking isn't boating at all. Mechanically the engines may be the same or similar. But a complete overhaul with no repairs for 5 years? Nope. A truck isn't floating on water for only a few months at a time with ideal weather. A truck is running, hauling, tugging, being bumped, rammed from behind by it's trailer while being loaded and so on. It's in extreme heat and ##### chapping cold weather. Trucks take a beating. You want advice? Listen to the guys on here that are pounding the highway day after day. You want to do your own rebuild? Go for it. But you're not going to do it in 5 weeks with no experience and no help. No offence man and I'm sorry if I seem rude. But if I was in your headspace, I'd want someone to shake me awake.

I didn't read everything.
We bought a 1998 M11 T800 back in '06 for $18,000. It's been pretty good....not as good as the 2001 6Nz but more reliable than the 2005 ACERT and the 2008 ISX.
What rear suspension is on that '99? If it's a AG200 it's probably junk. I upgraded to the AG400.
The wiper linkage is probably worn out. Best replaced early because it only fails when it's raining.
Also, why not upgrade to the big airlines (the ones that supply air to the air springs) because I think it will ride better and I'd like to know someone who's done it....oir if it's even possible
Heim joints in the clutch linkage are probably seized.
Wood steering wheel because the stock one gets your hands all black.
Heater box under the hood on the firewall is probably rusted away. -
A truck isn't crashing and bashing through waves everyday and being continuously washed with corrosive salt water in every crevice that it can get into.365 days a year on a working commercial boat and when it is not working it is floating in salt water that may as well be acid to the running gear .
Owning and operating a truck successfully is from what I can see is 10 percent proper planning and specing your equipment ,40 percent mechanical ability another 40 percent business sense and 5 percent luck with the last 5 percent being driving skill. -
one more repair to ad to the list.
In the long run financially I would be further ahead to buy a new running glider and PM it from there.
taken care of properly it would most likely go a million 500 before needing any drivetrain work done to it.
I understand there will always be small repairs from incidents and abuse -
I know this is a very old post but it really hit home. I bought a 99 w9 for 20k and have been working on it for 2 yrs in my spare time. Its almost ready to roll. I didnt rebuild everything. New head and turbo. New aluminum heater box and all ac componets. Tires are good, painted cab and sleeper. Replacing all fuel and air lines now. Got about 32k in it. Gonna have rearends and tranny serviced.
