Yes problem is intermittent, I went and picked the truck up. I am going to be changing the harness tomorrow. How hard is it? Any tips? Nxs serial engine.

is this engine under warranty? if so make them do it. if they changed out the vva housings and it is still doing it. with everything else you have done. then yes it is the harnesses. they will not throw codes like they claim unless it is a dead break in a wire or complete failure of part. there has been many, many issues with the harnesses on the a-certs. the harnesses under the covers are a good weekend afternoon job. you may have to loosen the fuel and water lines that run up over the front cover to remove the riser plate. you don't have to remove the vva housings. there are two harnesses inside a front and back harness. does the plugs on the side of riser plate have oil in them? that is a dead give away that the harnesses are breaking down.

The plugs in the side of the riser have a ton of oil in them, actually runs down the side of the engine from them over time. No warranty on engine. Is there any parts I will need besides the harnesses? Such as a Riser gasket, etc? Thanks again everyone for taking time out of ur busy schedules to help a guy out.

the gasket for the riser is rubber one pc. if it is a nxs it will be a one pc like a huge o-ring with a rib in it. the mxs has a roll of square strip that you will have to cut to length. and when you place the ends together put a dab of silicone adhesive on the ends to help seal. other than that nothing else I can think of you will need. unless your valve cover rubbers are leaking then replace them also.

I ended up tearing it down tonight, pretty straight forward about 2 hrs in it so far. The riser gasket is a one piece o ring type deal and looks fine, should it be replaced? Also does anyone know torque specs or a link to where I can find them?

i'm on the road and don't have my book with me. someone else can chime in on specs. if the o-ring is still flexible and not brittle and wasn't leaking before yes you can reuse it. be very careful tightening the nuts down on the injector solenoid's. you can snap them off and then you are replacing injectors.

Can anyone tell me if I am supposed to use loctite on any of the bolts? Specifically the wire bracket bolts.

I never have. just be careful when you bend the wire looms and don't cut into the new harness. also make sure the don't touch anything when you install the riser.

Got the harnesses replaced. Ran the IVA test 5 and 6 not ok.. ran the test again, while it was testing #5 it began to work about halfway through and then #6 worked also. When it went to sample #5 for the second time in the test it aborted the test saying change in engine load, nothing changed no compressor nothing. Ive ran the test several times and only now and again does 5 and 6 actually work and when they do it aborts every time the second time around.. WHAT THE HELL.. I am at my wits end with this truck.

I am using 15w40 oil, could that be a problem? Also what does the iva oil control do? I ran the test with it unplugged got no engine light and it didnt affect the test at all.
