    Ask any detective or lawyer.....

    Its not what you know. Its what you can prove.

    If they are in on it, detectives arent stupid, they'll keep questioning them, they'll track exactly wherd they were, who they werenin contact with that day. Someone, somewhere... knows something.. saw something... fibers, trace evidence.

    How ever there are ellusive people. My wife is a retired fraud detective. For the better part of 6 yrs before she retired she was trying to catch a countefeiter. He was smart. He would come in to stores like Sears, Kmart, HomeDepot etc.. make $100 - $500 purchases using only fake $5 and $10 bills. This frustrated my wife because she could not get FBI assistance because only small bills were used. So she had to do her own survailance, use what ever resources the county had to provide. She had him on camera. Many times she missed him by only minutes. It was the one thorn in her career that she never caught him. No idea who he was.

    The same guy dressed up in a security guard uniform. Built a fake bank drop box. Stood outside a bank by the real drop box and told people the real one wasnt working. People are so naive.. no one questioned him. They put their deposit bags in his box. When it was full, he left. He got an estimated $50k. More than if he had held up the bank. Again.. never caught him.

    No need for the beach, too many witnesses. I have an extra kayak we can loan him.
    Always a good time catching a shark in a yak.

    ~$1,200 per ounce today. $4,800,000 / $1,200 per ounce = 4,000 ounces / 16 ounces per pound = 250 pounds.

    Are they sure it was stolen? Maybe they just misplaced it. Or somebody's wife put it away in a "safe place."

    There isn't any country that will protect a thief of precious metals... Russia might protect you if you did something to benefit them like Snowden did. But, Russia doesn't want to look like they harbor international fugitives and would hand your ### over to the US in exchange for one of their cold war spies being held in US prisons. All the other countries are sucking on Uncle Sam's wallet and won't risk the IMF or USAID cutting them off financially over your #######. North Korea, Iran, and other rogue states would take the money, shoot you in the back, and hand over your corpse to the State Dept and say you tried to flee and they have no idea where the money is. This is a new world order.... Even out in international water, you are under some country's jurisdiction because the vessel is flagged and registered somewhere. The only person I can think of who got away was Marc Rich, who sold about $8 billion in phony junk bonds in the 1980's and hid out in Switzerland till Bill Clinton pardoned him in the 1990's..

    Not quite right:

    ""Investigators, who responded to the scene shortly before 7 p.m.""

    Probably happened closer to 6...BTW, it was light here until 7:15pm last night...

    I agree it doesn't pass smell test;

    - breakdown on 'secluded' segment of I95
    - bad guys just happen to be following you like vultures waiting for you to get hurt
    - when you get hurt and the vulture strikes, nobody else on road

    That is a set of circumstances and coincidences that could be planned(whether inside job or not), but on the fly, I highly doubt...
