If I'm hauling for a company but can run the load boards, can I just do the standard subscription? All I wanna do is search loads and post trucks?

Seems you got three options. You can either buy a subscription at one of the major truck stops, buy your own WiFi, or use your smart phone as a hot spot.

Alternatively, many McDonald's have free WiFi. Plus you can find public free WiFi spots throughout the US http://compnetworking.about.com/od/wireless/tp/wifihotspotfind.htm

You will need to get your carrier with current operating authority to give ITS permission for you to use there MC#s. ITS wont do anything with anybody unless you have operating authority. They are a real pain in the ###.

I search Internet Truckstop every day, I prefer it to the DAT as its more customizable and easier to enter the information in a spreadsheet.

Can somebody go into detail about posting a truck. Also say you find a load on the board do you call the broker and negotiate a rate or do you have to haul their rate. And what is a packet that brokers send to fill out and do you have to fill it out everytime you work with that broker or with a different broker.

When you buy the subscription, they will walk you through it in detail.

Now the next part worries me. Seriously. If it is your business, you decide what you will haul for. That does not mean the broker is willing to pay that much. You need to get some business sense, or you will be the prime example of BAYOU's thread.
Packet, is a death deal(contract) that a broker wants you to sign. It will always be written to the brokers benefit, decide if you want to accept it. Usually you fill all of it out once per broker/ company, regardless of how many loads hauled/ booked.

The ups and downs have a tendency to do that to you. If you're working spot for good rates that's how it goes. Here today, gone tomorrow. If you're working cheap you stay busy non-stop, year round.
