I just had my hair cut the other day from the same girl who's been cutting it the last 10 years. I told her the day my receding hair line meets my bald spot she'll be loosing a customer. I'm Almost there.

You'll get in Sunday some time, orientation is Monday and Tuesday. You will be dispatched Tuesday probably to leave out on Wednesday. If you are going with a trainer then it will be 2 weeks before you get home. As a trainer, it's important for you to know not to bring everything you own. Your trainer has everything you will need. To start, just bring clothes and bedding. Foodstuffs will be bought on the road as you get settled in.

I do need to emphasize a few points. The motel you will be staying in is there for one reason, sleep. It's not a Sandals Resort. You have a Waffle House, and McDonalds within walking distance. They will feed you a Subway sandwich for lunch the 2 days in orientation. Also, I must tell you this, they will deduct from your first paycheck $116 for the DOT physical. Within your first 2 pay checks it will be reimbursed, the reason? They had people showing up for a physical and never staying long enough to do their first load. Another point is that we get paid every 2 weeks. For me this is ideal. It means if I go home for an extra day or two for hometime, I can come out and have enough time to make it up.

If you are coming in as a trainee, you will be trained by some of the best in the industry. Your job will be to learn, our job is to train. You will get that. They will try to assign you to a smokers truck if you smoke or a non-smokers truck, like myself. Remember, you will be sharing 25 sq ft of space together. Less is better. One thing you should take from home is a towel and shower shoes. We have 2 brand new mens showers with 2 more just about complete. I have taken more showers at the terminal the last 2 years then I have anywhere else I've worked.

I can speak for just about every trainer here, you will be trained at your speed, not ours. You will not be used as a second log book on the truck. Total training will be 6 months, shorter on the trainers suggestion to safety. There's 3 stages, 1st stage, second stage then Northeast training. Yes, when the time comes, you will need to drive in, out and through NYC. We are a 48 state carrier and all of Canada. They won't force you to go to Canada, but they will force you to go to NYC. Me? I go anywhere I'm asked. I won't eliminate income because I won't go somewhere. You will be trained right, you will have a list of mentors that will help you with any question you might have about any aspect of this company, policies, procedures or customers. We are a very driver friendly group. We have quite a few regular people on this forum that won't hesitate one bit to answer any question you might have, or to give you any guidance you might need. We are here to help each other.

Just remember, the only stupid question is the one not asked. And if you think you know the answer, take a pause and contact someone. Good luck and call me if you need any info.

This is pretty funny... i consider orientation like a 2 day job interview..sleep learn ..sleep learn ..get hired....but please enlighten me with your stories of students making the VIP inn into a Sandals Resort...what did they do to get kicked out ? lol
