Blair, Now you know why it is called the homeless shelter. The ones that stay there all the time are the ones saying"there are no good loads, freight is way to cheap, I can't make any money" you wonder how they survive. The good side is they are not taking freight from people that want to work. I have not been to a shelter in almost 3 years, some things just don't change.
The good part, you found a good load on Monday, always the worst day.
You need to get the training wheels off, there are loads near your home going to the SE paying 5400 TTT for 1150 miles. Easy loads, lite and wide, not posted, but there will be more. I may know how to get them.
stwik, spectacle13 and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
Love the breakfast food there

Congratulations, Blair, and thank you very much for sharing through this thread! I wish you and Gretchen the very best on your new adventure!

My impression is that most of the successful O/O's at Landstar don't sit and wait for loads to appear on the load board, they are cultivating relationships with a handful of brokers (not sure whether they are referred to as brokers within Landstar), as most of the really high revenue loads never make it on the board.Blue jeans, stwik, spectacle13 and 1 other person Thank this.

Awesome thread!! I usually don't come one here and say much I just sit back read and learn and keep my mouth shut. I learned a lot and want to thank you Blair and the other helpful people on this forum. I would like to get a truck later this year or early next year. My wife just graduated from Texas A&M with her PHD. So she will make a comfortable salary which will hopefully allow me to take this venture but we will see. I have a question on leasing on with LS. Obviously you are o/o but what if you don't want to run this week or for 2 weeks is that frowned upon or run when want to is acceptable or what? I saw old man said you didn't run for some weeks and they were fine with that is that typical or is because you have seniority or what? Sorry don't mean to sound like an idiot but I am the village idiot after all!! I would love to do what you are doing but not willing to stay gone for long periods of time. My work has mostly been local and all over Southeast and Central Texas with the occasional West Texas over night stay (lowboy work hauling heavy equipment). Maybe gone for a week at most and then home for a spell. If you don't mind enlighten me please.
By the way Old Man I live about 10 miles away from Normangee Texas but currently moving to Kingsville Texas, my wife accepted a position down there.Pete 389 Thanks this. -
At Landstar, you dispatch yourself. If you don't want to work this week, or this month, then don't. They might call you see if everything is alright after a month or two, or come get their trailer after a few weeks without a load. The only time you talk to corporate are when you've been bad, or need to pee in a cup. There is no seniority here really. Drivers that have been here longer know how everything works, and may have networked with agents to be first call before a load goes on the board, but I wouldn't call that seniority.
