As far as stopping the truck there is very little difference..But disc are a better product therefore more expense to maintain...
-
Ohh ok so it's actually a good thing ??
-
Good thing. The Mack I'm in has discs on the front axle only and it stops noticeably faster than the other trucks I've driven.
Plus I think there are fewer things for the dot to check and be able to find violations with. -
i have no personal experience with them but everything i hear is good.

Funny you ask, I just got issued a new truck that has disc all around. Freaking awesome brakes, you will love them.
Derailed Thanks this. -
They are good to have..but there are many pros & cons.. I would never convert a drum to disc..but if you have disc.. you will not have out of adjustment issues..it is easier to change discs than shoes.disc cost much more than shoes..but yea if your truck your gonna buy has them it is a good thing..better than drums? Well thats something you have to argue with the traditionals..

one good thing about disc is that a DOT inspector can not tell if the brakes are out of adjustment,\\ pros lower labor cost to replace pads, lower weight, better stopping,,, it will be the norm on all truck soon
-
they run disc brakes on the front on gmc astros in the 70s. a friend of mine had one and really liked the breaking power on the front. but back then most drivers backed the front brakes off anyway. b safe out there

all our tractors are disc brakes
and my regular trailer is all disc brakes
noticeable stopping power on the big hills
industry standard as older trucks retireHammer166 Thanks this.
