He was being careless. He deserves what is coming to him. Show empathy for that poor O/O that will be late for his load or even lose it because of this.

Girl, I know you want this $$$$. -
Sure, not every company requires time with a trainer but any company that hires new drivers out of school should provide time with a trainer. I have a truck driving school and on occasion we get guys (and girls) that were born to drive, they're naturals and could drive circles around experienced guys BUT they still need time with a trainer to see how things operate in the real world. Schools are forced to teach certain things that may not be conducive to the real world, like double clutching. And, as silly as it sounds, the state bans us from hauling freight so most of the students wont know what it's like to haul a load until they're out of school. A firm foundation of backing and shifting are great but they are foundations.

I can't speak for all schools but I do know we have held back students that weren't getting it - i have to drive on the same roads they do. The Illinois SOS examiners are not playing around either, they're very particular and I have had students fail for backing up less than an inch from a line on the ground.
When the students leave they can set-up and back-up with ease but they haven't been doing it for a long time. Some get it their first week in the truck, so they've had a month's experience of backing up right when they hit the road. Others don't get it until the week before testing so they only have a week or two of backing up right before they hit the road. It just depends on the student's learning ability.
We do a lot of backing in tight spaces, at truck stops and between trailers in the yard but I read a post on another blog where a new driver said that every time he drove into a truck stop he looked for a pull-through spot! If this is what a school teaches, no wonder there are parking accidents out there. That's just crazy!
But yes, it is everyone's blame when a new driver has an accident, not just the new guy. The system failed him somewhere along the line. -
You can't train people not to make mistakes but you can build their confidence, teach them to get out of the truck and look, set-up properly, take their time and make sure they have room.

wow) insuarance company pays for new parts, we use to get used parts from JY.... ouh, I see hood, radiator, intercooler, some hoses, fan with fan clutch and some belt drive parts

On top of everything I won't be surprised if he shows up to the receiver empty
U live and learn if he had adjustable tandems and at 40' that FL would look worse -
If he was anything like me when I was a rookie, he wasn't ready. I look back on it and I should have not been on the road when I was done with my Schneider trainer.

How is it not criminal negligence to put a guy with that level of stupidity in a truck? Obviously he was not road tested by his employer. Criminal!
