I wasnt sure how heated it might get. I just wanted an honest opinion and statements.
You guys dont understand,.. ever since they made me mod I get guys tossing 'Likes' at me like they are going out of style and I dont feel I deserve half of them.
The 1099 issue is something I feel strongly about and I wanted a good honest debate. I wanted to hear what you guys had to say about it. I hate beating around the bush and people who are afraid to be open and express how they really feel.
I just wanted that to be out in the open and for it to be understood that I hold no grudges just because people dont agree with me. I'm not that way.

I will. My wife handles all that. Soon as she gets home I'll get her number.
Hurstrank Thanks this. -
I'll tell you what. I'll counter that by not liking anything you post, and since this is the second time you've come after me SINCE you've become a mod, and both times because you completely or on purposely missed the point, it won't be hard for me. At all.
i said, and I posted proof of how and why the 1099 for a company employee is illegal. They do nothing to help the employee being classified as a contractor at all. It places the burden on the employee and takes away certain protections that an employee has. -
I deserved that,.. no argument here. LOL
And I never went against what you stated. Only added the 'Other side' of the 1099 argument.
The only thing I countered was that not ALL 1099 companies are out to rip off the driver. Otherwise,.. everything you guys say is true.
Let agree to disagree on the subject,.. anything you post here on out about it I will do my best to stay out of it. Believe me,.. there are some posts in the political section that really eat at me,.. and I know to stay out of there because if I said how I feel, it would get ugly. Best to just keep my opinions private and keep the peace. I really dont like all out heated arguments. But you guys are pretty level headed and I am happy with the way you handled yourselves. I only hope that you feel at least halfway the same about me.

The political section, aka The Sandbox is just a big playpen. We get under each other's skin but most of us are really good freinds, being as there's only a handful of us. And getting ugly is fun in there, as long as everyone plays by the same rules and doesn't take it too seriously. As for the 1099 subject, we are all allowed our opinions, but not our own facts. If the 1099 companies were to be better, then hey, who am I to say anything. But the problem is, most are not and that's where the problem stems. They are taking advantage of the people who work for them.

Very very interesting. You and I started at a 1099 company for similar reasons. And i have evolved into this company the same way you evolved at yours. I used to be my boss's little foot soldier. Whatever stupid bs he told me to do i did it no questions asked. Eventually a lightbulb went off in my head "he needs me more than i need him". Now when he tells me to do stupid tasks for him i just say "dont you have someone with less senority you can push that on? I did my time."
These days he leaves me alone though. I get away with everything. In a way i will miss working here because i know when i go to a "real company" i wont be able to do half the crap i do here. -
Well I thanked you anyway. Think I'm a kiss ### if you want but there's 1080 other thanks out there so you aint all that LOL.

As for the 1099 thing...we are all big boys and girls and we make our own decisions. Like I said, I worked as a faux contractor because the money was there and I did the research and knew the risks. In this day and age of the internet, nobody has an excuse not to know the tax liability that comes with it.
Want me to go on a rant so you can lock this down?
-
No,.. dont put me in that kind of situation.
I dont mind going after spammers and newbie douchbags. But regular Joes,.. I want no part of dropping the hammer on you guys.
Hurstrank Thanks this. -
if a driver sets up a company Tax id # and all and the trucking company makes checks payable to that company for services rendered its as legal as the day is long.
-
In order to be an independent contractor that can receive a 1099 legally, you must be able to show that you are receiving 1099's from more than one customer. If you are receiving a 1099 from only one "customer", then that isn't really a customer anymore; that's an employer. Employers can't pay their employees legally on a 1099.
If you have a company tax ID, register your business, have two or more "customers" that pay you on 1099's to your business, and file all your taxes properly; then it is "legal as the day is long". Anyone that wishes to be paid by 1099 should take on at least two "customers" and do everything properly. Consult with an attorney and an accountant to make sure you are doing it right.
