I'm shopping around for a new used truck and I was wondering what ya'll think is the most reliable engine amongst these: 2010 Cummins ISX, 2012 Mack MP8, 2009 Detroit 14.0L, or 2007 Caterpillar C15? I'm looking for something that's gonna last awhile maybe 500k miles. The average mileage for these engines are around 300k-500k miles already put on the odometer. Mainly going to use it for oil field work. Some OTR hauling but not much.
Also, what tests do you do to check engine health by a mechanic? I'm thinking oil/radiator fluid samples, pressure test and maybe a dye test of the coolant system for possible leaks. turbo leak test, etc.
Best engine

Detroit and delete the emissions. Also oil analysis and dyno run.

Of the engines you're looking at CAT would be my pick. Deleting emissions on a newer engine is a costly prospect I think your typical o/o doesn't want to bother with that. The CAT will do good as is with routine, minimal maintenance.

I wouldn't be afraid to go with the Acert cat, Ive got an 06 columbia with one in it and have 1.1 ml on it. I also like the Mack MP8,good strong motor but I don't know how there holding up when thy get a 500k on them.
