I'm like you....I run with it on,squelched down and only turn it off if I'm shutting down.Although I can fully understand the aggravation involved nowdays with listening to these inbreds over the radio,I still kind of view a driver as kind of goofy who does not run with it on....It would take at least a thousand posts for me to name everytime that the CB has saved me money on fuel, saved me a ticket COUNTLESS times, saved my bacon due to not running over a breakdown that hasn't made it to the shoulder and has no lights on,avoiding traffic jams due to an accident or road construction....think whatever you want, but I'd rather put up with the BS than the alternatives...I always LMAO when I think about the Prime driver who passed me in AR and got a ticket because he was to smart to run with a radio. His first hint trouble was ahead should have been that he PASSED a loaded bullwagon(me) ....I hollered at him a couple of times as he was going around me and when he got even,I held my mic up and he smiled and shook his head....I didn't have time to make the whirly bird sign before he was past.... about 2 miles later,he was on the shoulder with a new friend as I went honking by.Score was then..Dumbazzes 0 Cops 1....AND then he was famous on the CB for awhile after that and didn't even know it.LOL
If you don't run with a CB on......

I usually have the CB turned off or down so that I don't have to listen to all of the nonsense. But when I do get into a back up I might ask what is going on so that I have the chance to go around if I need to. But sometimes you get the reply back that your stupid for not having your CB on and after I listen to a ignorant driver make this comment it reminds me why I had my CB turned off in the first place. The CB and channel 19 is a tool for drivers to use for road conditions, back ups and directions but in today's world it is being used as a place for drivers to whine and show the other CBer's how stupid they really are. Just because you hide behind a CB mike and do stupid stuff does not mean that your not stupid because others don't know who are, it's just that we don't have a face to put with the stupid person. When a person believes that he will never get caught then his true personality comes out. So when a driver hides behind his mic then he is showing his true self.
Have a wonderful day. -
Well, if you see a Blue Buick Roadmaster with twin firesticks running down the road here in central CA, that's me! And it is on all the time! It's a tool that I use frequently, especially when I hit the highways. Whether I am in a rig or a four wheeler, I like knowing what's out there..

I have mine on when I am driving unless there is too much chatter. I especially hate it when two people start carrying on a 2 hour conversation that pertains only to them. Like what their kids did, what their pets did, what their company did. Or when they have long obnoxious borderline offensive conversations about how they treat their women/kids/pets/country/other races etc. Then it gets turned off. Also near Dallas, Laredo, West Memphis, and Bordertown NJ it gets shutoff.
But I don't talk on it pretty much ever. I feel bad but I dont know the lingo and they can rarely hear me anyway. too softspoken I guess. -
That's fine driver. You have your opinion and you are welcome to it.

I dont run with it on either unless Im insanely bored, and even then, I can only stand it for less than a minute. However, it does get turned on when I come to a backup for 1) To know whats going on 2) To know which lane(s) are open. A few days ago, just north of Atl around mm 270 s/b, there was a long backup due to construction. There was one driver compaining about how he was tired of everyone asking stupid questions like what the backup was. Mind you, he travels this route daily, so he knows whats going on. I got on and said that it may be a stupid question, but is it really so hard to give them an answer or no answer at all rather than chewing them out? Then, other drivers got on and chewed him out. Its crap like that why I dont run with my radio on. Yes, its a useful tool, but I lose too many braincells listening to it.

I would say 99% of the time I dont even turn mine on. Its such a waste anymore. All you hear is foolish chatter/some idiot playing his music over it/ and forget about getting directions with it. There are idiots out there that will send you in the wrong direction just to get their rocks off.
-
I wish there weren't so may idiots on the CB talking politics or the F##% You, no F*&$% You, Muther%^&*R! "conversations". Then there's the clown near Chicago that broadcasts the duck quacking for hrs at a time. And of course we have CB shops and truckstops doing broadcast advertisements over the CB.
It seems over 90% of what comes over the CB is either obscene, juvenile or just plain noise.
It's this lack of respect for channel 19 that I have it turned off 80% of the time. -

No problem...Thanks for not quoting how it's helped me or how you can help another driver with it.

Because I'm in the Pilot Car business now I have to have a CB on. But we stay away from 19. And we always find a quiet channel. Because I don't want to say something about hitting a bridge and the driver can't hear me and hits the bridge. Then we have a mess, for hours and hours.
