Received a letter in the mail today from TSA that states I am approved for adding HazMat to my CDL and that the TSA will notify my license state.
Is this the letter I take to my DMV or is there another one coming from my state that I need to wait for that I take to the DMV to add the HazMat endorsement?

Yes. Take this letter to your state DMV. Even though the TSA has sent an email to your state? Do not trust they actually got it!
SoulScream84 and NVME4EVER Thank this. -
Yes, don't believe the hype that it will be on the computer system, take the letter with you.NVME4EVER Thanks this.

No, just walk into your DMV office and get it put on. It's all computerized.
Just take the letter just in case.NVME4EVER Thanks this. -
Hi STransport,
I will suggest you take that letter immediately to the "DMV". Please, don't delay it.
I made a huge mistake (Misconception) thinking that they will actually contact the state directly and felt that it was not needed to be presented; in which resulting to me having a repeat of the fingerprinting process again. I have a valid TWIC/Tanker/Hazmat card that my DMV does not even acknowledge without that one piece of paper.
I hope this information helps you. Good luck!Last edited: Mar 14, 2015

I have hazmat, you will not be receiving another letter so yes take that letter you have now to the DMV along with either your social security card or birth certificate.
NVME4EVER Thanks this. -
Thanks everyone! I'll be at the DMV first thing Monday morning.
Only thing I find odd is that the letter doesn't state what type of HazMat I applied for.
I applied for Tank and HazMat as I already had the Tanker endorsement (hope it gives me the X endorsement). -
If you passed the test for tank and now you pass the test for your hazmat you will get the "X" endorsement.

I think there might be a second letter that comes from N.Y DMV.
When I called N.Y HazMat I remember they said there would be a letter that directs you to go to the DMV (which this one from the TSA does not)
This trucker's video at 0:20 says there are two letters.

Question im in Michigan and i was going to add hazmat to my endorsement and i was talking to an old timer and he said you can't just take the test at the dmv any more that you have to take an actual "class" before you can take the test on top of the fingerprinting and background check does anyone no if this is true??
