Hi lee, yeah, that was always my biggest fear driving in the fog, that all of a sudden, the back of a trailer came into view. I know it's not fair to pick on the dead, but I wonder how fast he was going? Large cars with flatbeds usually went hammering past me in the fog. I never could understand that.
i see that all the time as well. although he could have been speeding or whatever but fog can come out of nowhere. im young young yet for any trucking stories but a couple years ago i was on my way home from Indianapolis going down 65 i think at about 4 or 5 in the morning in my little green s10 when i went from being able to see almost everything to not being able to see the hood of my truck. i was scootin pritty good about 70-75 when i noticed a circle of red lights moving a hell of a lot slower then i was. i let off the pedal swung over and backed it down a few untill i was right next to a tanker. scared myself to death an cussed my self out for being so dumb. i radioed the tanker and we stayed together untill he found a flying j to pull into and we both got breakfast till the fog cleared. got some good advice from the guy and ended up running with him untill IL. sometime fog comes out of nowhere and by time you get slowed down your right on top of someone else. as nice as the truck looks in the picuter, even wrecked, i imagine the guy took alot of pride in what he did an was proud to be an independent sad the way he went out but almost fitting...
