So we are sitting at the Lexington NE truck stop went in to eat. Just before we went in there was a weird beeping coming from somewhere, fairly loud, but none of the gauges were showing any signs of issues, truck was on, and we couldn't locate the sound. It sounded fairly like a truck with a beeper backing up but it was obviously coming from in the cab. We couldn't locate it and it stopped a minute later. So we went in to eat, turned the truck off, came back out, went to start er up and now it won't start. At all. When you turn the key to start it up there is a strange click sound from the group of wires and fuses under the bunk? Any ideas while we wait for breakdown to send us a tow?
Rut Roh truck is broked?!

I wouldn't even try a guess at this point, I've seen and heard lots of things in trucks, let us know what you find out.
-
Call me crazy, but I'm betting it's electrical.

Sorry for being a smart arse and hope y'all ain't down too long.
-
Yeah I am going to have to agree. It sounds like something electrical.
-
Well it wasn't the battery, and it doesn't seem to be electrical because they pull started it and it worked fine. So we guessed starter. Dispatch said run with it until we deliver our current load then return to terminal near dropoff for repairs. Said don't turn off truck.
So of course when we stopped to eat today, hubby turned off truck. So here we are waiting to be pull started again in Omaha's Flying J. yay?
I think its the starter. -
The starter is both electrical and mechanical. Typically, it's the electrical components that fail. Although sometimes the mechanical parts can break, I doubt that's the case with a truck as new as Werner would have in their fleet.
That's a lot of words used for me to simply say that I'm still right.
Tell hubby to keep that ignition on and the motor runnin'!!
I'm willin' to bet you already have.

Beeping...as in low voltage system shutdown alarm. Common on Freightliners.
Also common when an invertor hits a reduced voltage/amperage system.
My guess would be a dead cell and or bad battery(ies) lending to all of the above. Of course, it might well be caused by a short in the system. Which also causes the above. -
had that happen once while I was driving for maverick. The fusible link at the starter fryed for no reason.

danc694u, I like your way of thinking. I'll lay odds your right on all counts.

Well I will say one thing I have always been annoyed with here at Werner is breakdown, while my truck RARELY does break down when it does weekend breakdown can make life miserable as they take HOURS to respond. In today's case we waited from like 10 am to like 1 pm before we got a response.
The truck in question is a 06 379, it was the starter. The company towed the truck to the yard and after some decisive whining the dispatcher pushed the truck to the head of the line (thank god for team werner and being loaded... otherwise it was a 2 day wait) so we will be back on the road tomorrow.
