I'll never forget Carl Bishop....He was my trainer many years ago.

He had HIS RULES and then we talked about how the company wanted it done.

One of HIS RULES was....YOU WILL SHOWER!!!!!!!! EVERY DAY.

His words referenced something about just exactly how a goats ### smelled and how he wasn't going to put up with THAT smell in HIS truck.

You've got a good attitude but you'll never convince me that 1 year is enough to be a driver trainer to the caliber that I believe the industry needs. It's my opinion based on what I've seen and I'm entitled to it. You'll probably do fine with stundent drivers but I'm sure you'll have problems with more experienced drivers. They may be right or wrong but I still think you'll have problems. There's no substitute for good experience and personally I would shy away from a company that would even put a driver into a training position with only one year. I think when you get 20 years under your belt you'll feel the same way.

On the other side of the coin I believe you'll do better than most of these driver trainers that don't have a clean record or experience and are training just for the extra money or whatever and could care less about who and what they'll teaching.

Please don't get me wrong that I think just experience is all you need. I've seen some drivers with 20 years experience that I wouldn't let anywhere near a truck. What I expect a driver trainer to be is a driver that's had a multiple exposure to professional driving and a spotless record. One that can teach all the operations of the truck and how the truck should be driven. Plus know defensive driving like the programs set up just for trucks that were put together by a bunch of very experienced safe drivers. I believe a company should take the driver training program very seriously and not just a requirement that's needed to fill a seat. I also believe that DOT should get involved with ensuring the companies have a usable safety program where they set minimum standards to be followed and spot check the companies. I feel there should be another endorsement on the CDL for driver trainers and the driver must have a minimum of 10 years driving. They should be paid more ALL the time because they'll need to keep up with requirements set forth by DOT and FMCSA.

Good luck to you and please remember that you'll be forming ideas and habits of these new drivers and they should ALL be above the industry standards.

sure, everyone is entitled to their opinion.:yes2557:
i plan on a no shortcuts approach to this. many peoples lives are in our hands every day. so this job should be approached with the utmost professionalism (any job for that matter, even burger flippers.who likes scrambling for lunch, paying too much only to find out they screwed up your order LOL). and attention to every detail of the job.

i wish you the best of luck. you seem to have a really good attitude going into it and the extra $45 a day helps out also. you gotta keep us updated on this and share your experiences with the new drivers.
