We're working on becoming a O/O trucking business and our insurance company says that there is 2 moving violations on my record. One is from 2013 (cutting threw median/service road) and the other 2008 (speeding), both with my car not truck & trailer. I don't dispute either, but can they really raise our quote and penalize us for a ticket from 2008??!! My personal auto insurance looks only at the last 3 years, do trucking insurance companies look farther back? That doesn't seem fair.
How long is a speeding ticket on your driving record?

Was the speeding more than 15 over?

Depending on the insurance company, could be 5 years. Also depending on the speed you were traveling against the marked speed limit. That speeding ticket is way old though, so obviously it was a major speeding violation.

It was for 5 over.

I always thought speeding tickets stayed on your record for three years.
Driven2Succeed and RAGE 18 Thank this. -
You'd think it was a 15+ ticket or worse, that would make sense. I'm wondering if their looking for extra $ by looking back that far. It's Progressive Ins. bought through our local Farm Bureau agent. Progressive sent me a letter that only showed the 2013 violation, but Farm Bureau brought up the 2008 violation afterwards. They want to add almost $850/year!

I think some go back as far as 10 years.

If not why not. You have to fight every mover, even if its in your personal chariot. because you never know. I've got a couple of tickets dismissed that the attorney worked miracles. Trucking Ins co are another set of folks who are out of control. It's getting ridiculous.
They will make any and every excuse to jack up your rates. Best to shop.
Good luck. -
Quick google search.I know it says car insurance but quite sure commercial insurance is similar if not even more cautious.
