.65cpm to a owner op....... 1. This has to be a joke 2. If he pulls any load for that amount he needs to be shot!
-
I guessing thats to pay his driver

If you are looking to pay an O/O that little, I wish you the best of luck in finding someone with a truck.
If, however, you are an O/O looking for a driver to run your truck....I'll sign up for .65/mi!
In all seriousness, look at percentage instead of the mileage deal for a driver. Percentage typically pays better on the shorter runs (less time, less distance, less fuel burnt, and so on), and running in the same area lets you as the owner build better relationships with your customer base (which can lead to choice loads and steady money). As opposed to running all over the country chasing spot market freight and possibly sitting for a day or two waiting for a money load or dragging cheap freight just to keep the truck moving. 30% seems to be typical for most. -
Need to clarify. Single o/o running his own show. No other driver. Say the load is $3 per mile what would o/o cpm?

Oh, what would you pay yourself! Now I see. Sorry, can't help there. It would completely depend on how much it cost you to run that $3/mi load. Take the gross profit, subtract all your expenses. Whatever is left is your pay. Hooray!

You mean for fuel?
Edit: Oh, for your (driver) pay. That's in the ballpark with benefits, maybe a little low depending on how many miles/week you run.
You ought to have additional profit on top of that to give you a return on your investment, pay for your managerial duties, etc
I shoot for $1/mile net (profit + driver wages) -
Better make some $$$$$ after you pay for your fuel. I do shorthauls for better $$$. My Avg. per mile before fuel is Between $4 and $5 a mile. Im also home every night and every weekend. Work smart not hard.
OceanDan Thanks this.
