Yeah I went to a driver mill for one day and walked away from it. Other than one guy who was retired and a former driver, the rest looked pretty downtrodden. They pretty much insulted the veteran driver and treated him like trash and were very condescending to him. Could not believe it.

I'm about to wrap up a 20 week (5 months) school session myself. I know I could have got my CDL within 4 weeks, but I don't regret going to this school one bit. I've spent the last 2 1/2 months driving in congested city traffic, narrow rural highways, and up and down 8% grades. I'm confident behind the wheel, and I am already used to how retarded 4-wheelers act around trucks in traffic. The only thing they didn't cover which I wish they did was more in depth truck maintenance besides the pre-trip.

Yeah the way you get to do things with a 20- week course is much more in-depth imo, whereas as a 3-4 weeks is to just spit you out ASAP with little training. There's actually local companies I can start with right out of school that won't take anyone unless they came specifically from a 20-week course, because the training is typically better.

I only have my first 10 weeks schedule but if the 2nd semester is similar it will be about 300hrs or thereabouts total, We get a lot of training on the skid pad for jackknifing and emergency evasion technique practice and get to run live deliveries for a local company that they deal with. Overall it seems like a solid program and there's quite a few good paying local companies that will blow you off unless you came from here so they are known for their good training as they won't accept you from anywhere else aside from another college that has an equally long program, but that's on the other side of the state.

20$ an hour is way more than most trucking company's pay way too much unpaid labor in this industry.
