I was with wil-trans and its school for refresher course June 2014. Its a great company, the training is excellent and the training from Dseat up to A seat doesn't take that long. I started my orentaion in July and came September 1st I was already rolling as a solo driver. Granted wil-trans rarely go west of Oklahoma with solo drivers but count on running thru the northeastern region. I haven't driven in Vermont nor new Hampshire but its great routes. I left wil-trans in Feb.2015 to persue flatbedding with tmc on a ded. Acct. But that was lies and the trucking jobs in tx are temporary so it wasn't worth the hassle of resubmitting applications every 3-6 months. Im going back over the road with wil-trans next Tuesday after being outta work for 2 months and living of the money I saved up. But of course that was when I was making about 36 CPM plus fuel bonus. Now I'm told they pay about 45cpm with fuel bonus.
Wil-trans isnt connected to prime inc in any fashion except the use of its facilities, maintenance (ie: tires, reefer, trailers) truck wash, and of course freight. Everything else company wise is up the street in strafford. Plus when your out otr and u need vehicle service going to a ta to get the truck fix u gotta specify that "new prime" is who the service is to be filed under.
When your out otr dont count on ever driving by the company unless you have business to settle. But other than that I'm ready to get back otr. BTW there's a 10k bonus if u stay with them for 5 years accident free, and 0 late loads (ones that are presumed to be driver error)
Other than that if yall have anyother question about the company from a drivers view i can answer to the best of my ability without the bs.Ga Dawg141 Thanks this. -
I am with Jim Palmer Trucking which is owned by Wil Trans. Same deal with Prime freight. The Wilson family has been great. I had some recruiter issues when I first came on and the family did what they could to make me happy and it was and still is their attitude that convinced me to stay. I have not met a staff member that wasn't helpful or a driver that wasn't happy here. It isn't for everyone but it is nice not to be thinking about looking for another job.

I'm back at wil-trans and they have made quite a few changes. Its great to see a company improve by getting rid of bad blood. Based on what I was told things went out of whack and they amended every issue. Secondly they are getting rid of the old freightliners and letting students train in the fairly used 2013-2014 freightliner cascadias. Much easier on the students IMO. I still see a lot of drivers pass up on wil-trans to go to prime and its is quite amusing. Just because the prime/school offers free training in trade for a $200 weekly loan doesnt mean its the best route. Clearly I like wil-trans and feel as if anyone who ever asked about the company should defiantly drop by and get a feel for the atmosphere around here u won't regret it

Wil-trans is for all practical purposes Prime. Meaning you will haul only Prime freight and trailers. You will be dispatched and assigned loads only from Prime thru wil-trans dispatchers. Wil-trans does not choose loads off a board they are given loads by Prime. Sometimes they get to choose from some loads, or make requests but mostly just forward the load to you from Prime thru them. They do have some influence but basically do not run their own company. They are 100% leased on to Prime. They do not get or have their own loads, do not even have their own yard or terminal but lease space from another company, but everything you will do is 100% Prime. Mostly east and east coast/new england states. They do also now have (in name only) Jim Palmer Trucking, also 100% Prime difference is JPT is northwest to mid-west n back. Can be a great place, can be a pain in the a--. mostly if you are an experienced, seasoned, veteran, safe, real good MVR/CSA driver not needing instruction, most likely not so good a place for you, very mich a micro-managed driving position. Not saying good or bad, really depends on you, where you are in your career with experience, leingth of time driving, knowledge and so on and what you want. I personally don`t wand to be micro-managed, n don`t need it. but all that said different strokes for different folks

Just got into my own truck again... Wiltrans is rated as the top safest trucking company in the industry in the 2million to 5million miles category. May not have own terminal but its the luxury of having small company with big company benefits. Prime gives a portion of the loads like any other company affiliated with them ie: OS, Henderson, wil-trans, and Jim palmer. Per Ron, the fleets trucks get serviced at the dealerships (peterbilt and freightliner) so if u have a loose oil pan plug u will be sent to the dealership for service due to upgraded warrantys. The loads they receive are planned around the drivers location and its that way because its profitable for the drivers and company. We sometimes go to the west coast but the Jim palmer guys generally have that covered ranging from Cali out to Ohio. The time I initially spent here I wasn't micro managed and that's coming from a rookie. As long you do everything right and meet the companies requirements u are good. We run 55-60mph. You can run 62-64mph but that cuts into the company driver pay raise bcuz they will spend more money on fuel cost. So running 8.0mpg is very good and efficient for u as a driver and a fuel bonus incentive on your paycheck.
Rattlayitdown Thanks this.
