Hi guys and gals,
Busy Friday for me I was all on my own with a cases count in the high 800s today. Hotels and restaurants all ordering heavy for Easter Sunday, second stop of the day was 200 cases stop after that 25 cases stop after that 160 cases and it went up and down from there.
Heavy things to like boxes of potato's because the one place makes there own french fries so they buy a lot of potatoes and I lump them down the stairs with my two wheeler. Along with there other fine selection of dry goods and frozen products as well.
Monday this past week I had an interesting stop it was an easy dock stop, really was the whole stop was on a pallet. 124 cases of all beef, Hebrew National Kosher Hot Dogs. $9,000+ dollars was the invoice I had never seen $9,000 worth of hot dogs usually you can get 2 hot dogs at the gas station for $0.99!
I was a bowling ally that actually got a little bit 2 they were by no means the heaviest, but for them they had a little bit of an order. That natural raw chicken is kind of heavy. Any how I load up my wheeler and just let it pull me down the ramp it probably starts to drag me at 8-9 miles an hour down the ramp. Then when it's dragging you down the ramp and you're wheelers really heavy you can feel the ramp flexing. Last Monday I drove a load of potatoes off the ramp totally off the ramp the wheeler went over the side guard of the ramp and I just let it go 5 cases of red skin potato's totally off the ramp.
What I love about these restaurant kitchens and Shaggy will like this is, there's always crapola all over the place today at the bowling ally I had a full wheeler load and the beer truck drivers had left all the beer right in the way because that's where the staff of the place told them to put it and I'm trying to maneuver 200lbs of raw chicken into the walk in fridge some times moving the wheeler around in these places is as hard as maneuvering the truck around. Any how the beers in the way I'm fighting to get the chicken in the fridge a girl who works at the bowling ally walks back there gazes and goes "Oh my there's just no room to move." Of course she didn't bother to take the 7 cases of beer and put them away. I was thinking to my self "Yeah don't worry nobody do anything don't bother to stock the beer where it goes just put it anywhere." The thing about these restaurants is it's all about cramming 20 pounds of potato's into a 5 pound sack.
I told the chef there and he's a nice guy I said "Chef man you're walk in freezer is to full and to much of a mess I left a stack of frozen in the cooler."
He said "That was all cool."
We were joking yesterday about this big big brand new high school way out east and they have like 3-4 walk in coolers and it border lines on ridiculous because there like "Okay now the frozen pepperoni pizza's go in this cooler and the cheese ones go in that cooler and the fries go here and the fruit and produce go in this cooler over there and the bread goes in the freezer, but don't put the waffel fries in the freeze even though there a frozen product."
It's getting to the point now where it's like "Would you like me to help you guys start cooking the food as well."
What it should be is we wheel it into the general vacinity or main kitchen and you all go figure it out. I don't think it's right that we have to especially at these hotels roll stuff here and roll stuff there and on and on and forever it goes. No better yet it all goes to the main dry storage the main walk in freezer and the main walk in cooler and you the customer who bought the stuff figure it out. It's not my business nor is it my food, chemicals or beverage supplies. Technically I'm just there to get it off the truck and inside the building once in the building it's you're problem.

Don't let my attitude rub off on you. That's why, I don't do Food/Beverage delivery.
If you're leaning, Should be cleaning ( Put away you're own crap ). I wouldn't last very long and dang as heck wouldn't be a customer.
Keep at it mike or find another job

Actually in an odd way enjoyed my self today (I don't know why) Any how I went to the restaurant I used to work at and was chewing the fat with the boss and he said "Yeah good help is hard to find nobody round here wants to do anything. However they all want a pay raise."
I got lectured today by a customer because apparently last week I put a case of bottled water in the wrong spot or something who the heck knows. Today I asked some customer where there freezer goes and there like the chicken goes here and the fish here and l just flat out said "Yeah I can't be sorting everything out by the case."
Truth be told these people probably think you should be stocking there shelves for them. Were not allowed to do that company policy.Last edited: Apr 4, 2015

Quit giving them a option. Complete your task and move on. Be firm if they pipe up, Company Policy. If it is really company policy, Side with the customer and if they want more detailed explanation have them ask the desk jockeys.
EDIT TO ADD: On the flip side, Each situation is different and so is the people. Tread Lightly. Customers who are nice goes a long way with me ( Options ) Company policy 100% or Okay I can work with you a bit ( Still not doing your grunt work )Last edited: Apr 4, 2015

Man, I wouldn't stock their stuff.. I would take it straight into the freezer/cooler and kick it off the 2-wheeler. Its their job to stock it as far as I know. That's what the food guys I seen on the beat did. I as a beverage driver had to stock the shelves and "merchandise" but my title was driver merchandiser at Coke.
Just tell them you simply don't have time..I'm sure you know or been told or seen that you are suppose to have so many set minutes for each stop depending upon cases.. If I remember right at Coke our cases was like 15 min or something..
If you don't know.. I'm sure your driver boss could print a route sheet that shows how long each stop is suppose to take and if you go to the same places I'm sure they have a record how long you spend at each stop.Shaggy Thanks this. -
Yeah were not supposed to stock shelves and we really don't. However if we can get it in the cooler or freezer we are supposed to do that. Now that being said, I couldn't get a stack in the freezer and I politely said "Yeah it's not going to fit." The chef said no biggie. I figure if I just tell them hey, I can't make it work sorry, they will or at least should understand...I hope.

Mike
If its company policy to not stock their stuff than stick to it. -
my favorite is when you get to a new store and somebody says "oh, put that stuff over here", so you bring in load one and you put it there and another person comes up and says "no no, we want all that stuff over here"
ummm, I could care less (usually) but get on the same #### page.Mike2633 Thanks this. -
My philosophy was once it comes off the 2 wheeler it's yours. Yes you got to bring it inside the freezer, cooler, or dry area but that's it. Once I slide my 2 wheeler out its not my concern. There's no sorting or stocking.
