Had my kingpins done 2 years ago. Front beam went to a machine shop and reamed and sleeved or so I was told. Now my left side kp has play in it again. Its not a maintenance issue because I grease every time I'm home 2-3 weeks. This was the same side as last time.Right side is fine,no problems.has anybody had this problem ls only?Im thinking I might get a used front beam from a used part company and put it on myself.i don't want to end up doing the same thing as last time just for the same result and it might be cheaper.

Do you jack the front end up when greasing king pins, so grease gets distributed evenly around wear surfaces inside the bushing?. I replaced mine with spicer bronze bushings and 4 years wearing good. bushing worn out or the actual beam wearing?.

Yup jacked up everytime.my right side would never take grease unless it was jacked but my ls would take it without being jacked.idk if the bushing is wearing or the actual beam. How can I tell or does it have to come apart to tell. when you got your kp done did you have to get the beam reamed or did you just have to replace the bushings & kp?

I did mine my self just pin and bushing, yeah only way too tell is to pull it apart and remove bushing and measure the bore.

The left side always wears faster than the right. Most of the time if an actual kingpin bushing was put in the axle then problem solved. I have always seen the holes teamed with axle in place with tooling made especially for that. If it was removed it's possible the machine shop made there own and that is any ones guess. What type of roads you run have a huge effect on king pin wear.

Jack it up and check the amount of play, then grease it and recheck the amount of play. If any or all play is gone that amount is due to worn bushings. The pin is held tight in the axle by one or two wedge shaped bolts. Hit the bolt opposite the nut with a hammer and punch, tighten the nut, recheck play. If it still has play check wheel bearing adjustment. Do not use bushings made of nylon or nylon inner linings. If they are really as good as brass why don't new trucks use them.
