...and I wouldn't doubt they have had issues with drivers waiting in their trucks, too. DuPont deals with chemicals...hazmat...and if I'm not mistaken, the truck isn't supposed to be running while certain types of hazmat are being loaded or unloaded. Sure, you gave them the keys. I've always carried a spare or two with me. I've heard drivers who carry dummy keys that don't work in their truck to hand over at those places which require keys. It only takes 1 driver to decide to fire his truck back up again and suddenly drivers are prohibited from remaining in their cabs while loading/unloading.
Thank-you Dupont

I would bet that taking a picture of the castle is enough to get you thrown out of the plant for life...

MUSTANGGT Thanks this. -
I started to carry around a fake set of truck keys to hand them just in case i need to get something in my cab. Naturally I comply with what shippers/receivers want because I don't want to be there any longer than I have to, but who says they are qualified to take my keys. Sure, I'll give them "Keys," just not ones to my truck. Just like they won't give me their keys to their own personal vehicle either, nor should I expect them to. We all should do this.

you mean we dont

My favorite is CEVA being locked up in a cage loading DELL or some other computer parts or components.

Unfortunately Mustang this is the way it is. Having worked for a plant ( drove ) I promise you it took a great deal of effort and negotiation just to get the shack. PB is spot on with his description about loose drivers in the plant too.
On the keys bit and not in the truck bit it's all safety. We have removed the keys, over locked the emergency glad hand and chocked every wheel plus put a 4x8 sign in front of the tractor and they still drove off causing spills and damage. Removing the driver from the tractor is the only answer short of not allowing the truck in the plant....and we have barred carriers from pulling our stuff.
Its all from experience .... -
I would flat out refuse to be caged up in that thing and request to be permanently banned from there facility. I'm not an animal and refuse to be treated like one. You got to draw the line somewhere.
bigdogpile and Puppage Thank this. -
Have you considered that removing drivers from the cabs that are careless enough to drive off with all those safety checks in place could injure themselves while in your care outside the truck opening you up to a multi million dollar personal injury suit?
-
Someone driving off with all those safety measures in place is doing so intentionally. There is no way to accidentally drive off in that situation.
I have no problem not waiting in my truck, so long as I am provided a reasonable waiting area. A reasonable waiting area has air conditioning and at least one outlet to plug my laptop in.
Tell me I have to wait in a shed like that, in Florida, in the heat of summer, I'll be taking my truck and leaving.Cat sdp Thanks this.
